Timber for roofing - what are we dealing with?

The latter are more expensive, but also more durable. These boards have different ends: profiled groove-comb, straight or for cutting.

With straight ends they are mounted end to end and there are cracks between them, which means that you do not need to do any additional ventilation holes. If the boards have perforated edges or are lapped, it is necessary to make ventilation slots and attach a grid to them. The distance between the two fasteners of the board should not exceed 100 cm.

The wooden overhang of the overhang requires constant monitoring of the condition. Approximately every 5 years it needs to be treated with protective agents from fungus and putrefaction, as well as to conduct biosecurity, after carrying out all impregnations, the wind board is tinted or varnished.

Windboard - the principle of fastening

The building codes do not state anywhere that roof overhangs must necessarily be sewn. You can do without it, but if the roof structure has thin rafters and at the same time you can see the bottom of the file, then it is desirable to sew such overhangs. This will betray the aesthetic appearance of the structure and protect the attic space from the temperature drops and the appearance of birds.

Before installing the binding box, heat the walls, this is especially true for horizontal plating. Also after installing the roof, it is necessary to trim the ends of the rafters that protrude beyond the front of the house. This should be done along a line and parallel to the walls of the building.

For the installation of the box and the skin itself, it is necessary to use scaffolding or a stepladder, a screwdriver, screws, a saw, a pencil and a tape measure.

We use a thick board or a bar to make the casing. One edge of the board is attached to the bottom of the rafters, and the second - to the previously lowered and fixed by means of signal bars an additional board located at the wall.

At the corners of the construction, where two roof slopes meet, the board should be placed not on the edge, but laid flat, becausethere will be a joint, and it will be necessary to fasten the two ends of the boards. The butt joint must extend exactly from the corner of the roof to the corner of the walls. This method of fastening the boards allows to obtain a rigid construction of the box, independent of the wall of the building.
