Connecting the thermostat to the warm floor

In the systems for controlling the warm floor, the controller plays the role of the control unit, a device that processes information received from the temperature sensor and, in accordance with a given mode, includes or switches off the heating of the floor.

With the electrical system of the warm floor, the thermostats are installed without fail. Installation of the thermostat in the system of water-heated floor is not necessary. But, if the floor is an additional measure of heating, and thus the temperature of the coolant when entering the circuit above 50 degrees, the installation of the thermostat solves the problem of overheating the room.

Types of thermostats

Thermostats for any underfloor heating system can be:

  • programmable, operating in a pre-installed, including a complex program;
  • without software control.

Changing the modes on the non-programmable thermostats is done manually, using the rotary knob( mechanical adjustment) or the buttons( electronic-digital).

Programmable and non-programmable thermostats

Programmable and non-programmable thermostats

Programmable thermostats are more expensive and more difficult to manage, but at the same time they allow to save energy resources considerably, switching off the heating of the floor or reducing its temperature during night hours or during the day when its heating is not needed.

Mechanical non-programmable thermostats are controlled by simply turning the knob to the specified mark. Electronic-digital - with the help of buttons, touch panel or remote control. The price of unprogrammed thermostats is lower because of the extremely simple logical part.

By the way of installation thermostats are:

  • built-in - they are installed in a special groove in the wall;
  • waybills - they are attached to the wall with screws or screws.

The choice of installation type is a matter of taste, but it does not affect the functionality.

Sensors for temperature measurement

Sensors are a thermocouple of two wires, changing the resistance of the circuit when heated. Wires are connected to the corresponding terminals of the thermostat. Sensors are:

  • remote;
  • built-in.

Remote units are divided into floor or air temperature sensors. The first is installed simultaneously with the laying of the heating elements directly under the finish coat, the latter - in a convenient place for measuring the air temperature. Built-in sensors are located directly inside the thermostat. Some models of temperature controllers have both types of sensors.

In the bathroom and in the kitchen it is better to install thermostats with a floor temperature sensor - the air in these rooms can be heated from a plate or hot water, the floor will remain cold.

Connection of a thermostat to electric warm floors

Electric warm floors are made with a heating cable with high resistance or infrared film. They are laid on a specially prepared base, after which they make a floor screed and lay the finish coat.

Thermostat connection technology:

  1. Before installing the floor, you need to determine the location where the thermostat will be located and plan its connection to the electrical network. To connect the thermostat, you need 220 V AC, that is, you can connect it to a standard outlet or to a separate cable through a circuit breaker.
  2. When laying the floor, choose the location for the temperature sensor. It should be located not far from the thermostat, on the floor of the furniture free from furniture.

  1. For infra-red floors, the sensor is placed on the underside of the film and connected to the wires leading to the thermostat.
  2. For cable warm floors filled with concrete screed, the sensor must be placed in a metal corrugated tube, isolating it from the ingress of concrete. This measure is necessary for easy removal and replacement of the sensor in the event of its failure. The sensor, soaked in concrete, can not simply be extracted. The pipe is led to a wall on which a thermostat is mounted.
  3. After laying the floor, proceed to install the regulator. In the chosen place, a groove in the wall is prepared according to the dimensions of the housing of the built-in thermostat or marking is made for attaching the consignment note. Remove the front panel and fix the regulator in place.
  4. Compare the permissible switching capacity of the contacts of the thermostat with the power of the heating cable or the infrared floor. If it is smaller, a magnetic starter with a coil rating of ~ 220V is additionally installed. In this case, the heating cable circuit is connected to the 220 V supply via the contacts of the magnetic starter, and the starter coil circuit is connected to the thermostat output.
  5. If the switching power of the thermostat contacts is sufficient, the heating cable is connected directly to the output from the thermostat.
  6. Connect the sensor circuit to the terminals specified in the passport or instructions.
  7. Connect the 220 V supply to the corresponding terminals: they are usually labeled L or F - phase and N - zero. Phasing should be observed. You can determine it by the color of the wire: if the cable is new and laid by the rules, then the phase wire has black, brown or white insulation, and the neutral wire is blue. If you connect the thermostat to a common outlet, the phase is found using a voltage indicator or indicator screwdriver.

  • thermostat Check the operation of the thermostat:
  • Supply 220 V;
  • Set the minimum temperature value on the thermoregulator;
  • Turn on the floor heating with the toggle switch;
  • Change the temperature mode to the maximum by turning the knob or using the buttons - thus there should be a click, notifying about the closure of the heating circuit.

Connection of the thermostat to the water heated floors

The thermostats for the floor water heating systems are a device for controlling the servo drive that regulates the flow of the heating medium into the heating circuit. They can be either electronically or manually controlled, while in these control systems, air temperature sensors are usually used, rather than the floor, due to the large inertia of heating.

  1. The sensor is installed at a height of approximately 100-120 cm above the floor level on the wall, it is possible next to the thermostat. The wall should not be subjected to additional heating from the radiators.
  2. Mount the supply circuits for the thermostat and the sensor circuit.
  3. If a thermostat with electrical connection is used with a servo drive, the cable is routed to the control circuits.
  4. When using the regulator with radio control, adjust it.
  5. Checking the operation of the control system is carried out with an external thermometer: set the regulator to the desired mode and measure the temperature at the sensor installation site for several hours. The temperature should not fluctuate significantly.

All work on the connection of electrical circuits must be carried out with the circuit breaker disconnected - this is the guarantee of your safety!
