Finishing stage of the arrangement - we are finishing the attic

Finishing the attic is attributed to the finishing phase of the attic.

Before you go directly to the finish, you need to clearly understand what the end result you want to get.

Understand the purposes for which you will operate the premises, and only then proceed to the selection of materials.

Finishing the attic lining is one of the most common options, because it is a budgetary material, which at the same time has good quality and light weight.

If finances are allowed, the actual decoration of the attic with a tree is no less relevant.

Timber has been used since ancient times, and it is a natural and environmentally friendly material, which is especially important if the house has small children.

It is also possible to decorate the attic with plasterboard, MDF panels, OSB or even block house, which, in fact, is an ideal imitation of a wooden beam, but at the same time it is much cheaper.

These modern finishes are enjoying increasing demand and are very common in the building materials market.

Some decorators even use fabric as the skin of the room, which gives the attic space an exclusive and original look.

Below you can see how the finished attic trim looks, the photo includes variants of different types of materials.

Preparing the room for finishing

In most cases, the attic is a common attic of a house that is rebuilt forliving quarters.

Regardless of which options for finishing the attic you will use, it is necessary to carry out certain preparatory work before proceeding to the finishing stage of the plating of the room.

First of all, the attic should be comfortable to use. To do this, it is important to work out not only the different ideas of the skin, the design of the room, but also the construction plan itself.

No matter how creative and stylish the design does not turn out, if the room can not be walked without bending down( sometimes the attic is low in height), then it will be extremely inconvenient to use the converted attic.

In this case, if the bevel angle of the roof is too sharp, a broken roof can be installed. The video below shows the interior view of the mansard floor with a broken roof.

If in the old days there were no heating in the attics, and they were intended exclusively for the lower strata of the population, today the situation has radically changed.

It is necessary to conduct the insulation of the attic. Central heating can not be laid, but the layer of insulation is simply obliged to be present.

Also in the attic with the attic roof, it is necessary to conduct thermal insulation, and the most careful should be exactly with the roof slopes, as they are subjected to strong external influences( precipitation, wind loads, low and high temperatures).

In this case, the layer of thermal insulation must pass not only from the inside, but also from the outside. The presence of a double heat-insulating layer protects the attic from freezing and draft.

Only in the presence of thermal insulation, the attic ceiling must be trimmed.

Walls and pediments can only be insulated from one side, this will be enough. To finish it is possible to pass only in the event that all construction and preparatory works are completely completed.

Remember that no matter how good the material, if you make some mistakes in preparing the room, the material can quickly deteriorate( if you do not put the insulation, the walls will appear condensate, which can lead to the appearance of mold and fungus) and all yourthe work will go wrong.

And now let's try to finish the attic with our own hands, using different types of materials.

Use of drywall

The finish of the attic with gypsum boards is done quite quickly, since it does not require much effort, which is extremely important when the work is done by hand.

If you own a wooden house with a broken roof skylight, then plasterboard should be plastered with skates first, then gables and only then the ceiling of the room.

The work process is very simple:

  • first install a metal crate( mainly using galvanized steel);
  • the average length of the frame is from 40 cm to 60 cm;
  • fixing sheets of plasterboard is made every 20-25 cm;
  • the depth of the technological gap between the plasterboard and the wall must be at least 5 cm;
  • at the end of the installation of drywall all the joints of the material are smeared with the help of the Serbian, and then carefully shpaklyuyut.

Finishing the attic with gypsum plasterboard involves placing the communications directly behind the material.

The wiring in this case is placed in a special metal hose, which will prevent the occurrence of a fire in case of accidental damage or shorting of the wiring.

The video below shows a detailed process of installing drywall itself.

Sheathing with block house

A good idea is to trim the attic with a block house, the material is much more budgetary than MDF, but looks just as good.

Some somehow believe that the block house only trim the front of the house, and this opinion is one hundred percent wrong.

Using the block house from the inside, you can create a room with imitation wooden beams.

The material has many positive characteristics, which is why it is often used in design projects.

First, if you use the blockhouse for finishing the attic, you will no longer have to worry about preventing mold and damp.

Secondly, with the help of such a skin in the room, you can create an interesting design.

Thirdly, if other types of material may not be very convenient to use on the attic floor, then with block house these problems do not arise.

And, finally, the roofing of the attic by block house not only positively affects health, but also helps create a cozy atmosphere in the room and, being in it, you will get aesthetic pleasure and be content with comfort.

The original design of the attic with the imitation of the beam can be created in-house.

The roofing of the attic from the inside of the panel house is quite easy:

  • blocks of the block house are mounted on a wooden crate;
  • the thickness of the wooden beam of the crate must be at least 4 cm;
  • for a good thermal insulation and sound insulation, panels must be fastened a short distance from the wall;
  • after the end of installation, the material must be coated with a primer and varnish.

Before installing, block house panels and pieces of wooden beams must be treated with an antiseptic. This will prolong the service life of the materials and protect them from pests and mold.

In the video below, the process of installing a block house with simulation for the elements of a wooden beam is removed.

Using a false beam

The false beam is not used as often as the panels of the block house, but it is also quite popular as a trim for the attic floor of the house.

Using this skin board, you can create a surface with imitation of a wooden beam and look it will be extremely realistic.

If you look at this skin from afar, then you will not notice any difference between the skin of the present beam and the surface with its imitation.

The false beam has many advantages:

  • it does not show cracks under the influence of time;
  • the material is almost not subject to deformation;
  • light weight allows for self-assembly without the need for additional people;
  • fungi and mold do not appear on the surface of the skin;
  • high thermal insulation properties of the material allow you to save a significant amount on heating the room.

This material with imitation wooden beams is also environmentally friendly and ideal for mansard roofing used for a nursery.

The video below shows an example of a design project of a mansard floor, trimmed with false beams and plywood.

Finishing with OSB

OSB as a material representing oriented chipboards( ie plates in the production of which the pressed chips were used).

In the press, water resistant resins are used, which are used under high pressure and elevated temperatures.

The strength and flexibility of the OSB is the same as that of wood, but the price of the slab is much lower, which makes it possible to create budgetary design projects with their help.

In this case, the OSB does not have the negative qualities that are characteristic for the wooden sheathing: knots, caverns and bending fibers.

The plates are well tolerated by humidity( slightly expanding), and their cutting into separate pieces is easy and simple.

Do not forget that the OSB is more than 90% of wood, so it can be used as an interior decoration of the attic for the nursery.

Installation of OSB slabs is easy to implement on their own:

  • frame is built using wooden bars( the bars must be perfectly smooth at the same time);
  • slabs with a flat edge are installed with a gap of 3 mm so that they can expand freely if the level of humidity in the house rises;
  • plates, on which there are special splicing grooves, are mounted end-to-end to each other, depending on the direction of the grooves and ridges;
  • after the end of installation, the joints between the plates are spilled with special glue.

After the surface, the OSB can be coated with water-based paint or oil paint. The video below shows the options for attic floors with OSB slabs.

Result

As you can see, the decoration of the attic with their own hands does not take much effort and time, and it is possible to use a wide variety of materials.

To create an original and memorable design, you can also decorate doors, skirting boards, cornices, performing them in a contrasting color.

Beautiful staircase, leading to the attic floor, will also make a certain highlight in the interior design.

Alternatively, you can paint the plank surfaces of the attic floor in different tones, which can, as contrasted with each other, be made in the same color scheme.

Walls made of bricks or slag concrete can be treated with a universal primer, after applying the starting layer of plaster, and again primed surface.

It is possible to create a structural finish coat of plaster. It is possible to make such a relief by applying a stone crumb in a solution.
