The best place to store a car is definitely a personal garage. In the garage the car is protected from atmospheric precipitation, rust, excessive attention of vandals and hooligans, and also from theft, at least to a greater extent than on the street. Moreover, often the garage is used as a storage place for all sorts of things that are not fit at home, as a place for minor repairs of cars and household items.
So the order and comfort in the garage is also necessary, as well as at home - after all, we spend a lot of time in it. Cleanliness in the first place depends on which material the flooring of the room is made of, and in the case of the garage this material will be concrete in 99% of cases. The concrete surface has undeniable advantages for use as a garage floor:
- it is rugged
- durable
- waterproof
- is cheap in the manufacture of
However, just a concrete floor without any treatment is impractical - it is very dusty and prone to abrasion during hard operation. The question arises - how to cover the concrete floor in the garage, to level out all its shortcomings, leaving only dignity? There are several options for processing the concrete floor.
The floor in the garage of ceramic tiles
A fairly common and inexpensive option of coating. It is better to use a special floor tile with good strength characteristics. Tiles should be placed on a flat surface, in rows, periodically checking the horizontal position with a level. The process of laying tiles is described in detail in this article.
To the disadvantages of this type of floor for the garage is the frailty of the tile, if a metal object falls on it, and the presence of seams that will be clogged with dirt and constitute a weak point.
Wooden floor of the garage
Another popular type of coating that is typical for old garages - there was not a special choice of types of coating before. The floor is made of edging boards with a thickness of at least 20 mm( as for a ladder), laid on transverse lags with a half-meter range, treated with impregnation and painted. The option is inexpensive and practical, unless the paint needs to be updated periodically. By the way, it is not recommended to use linoleum on the floor of the garage - it will slide in winter.
Rubber flooring
Rubber flooring has all the advantages needed for garage floors:
- high wear resistance
- chemical resistance
- anti-vibration properties
- sound absorption
This coating is used for the construction of sports grounds, technical rooms, and is ideal for a garage. The thickness of the coating can be from 4 mm to 4 cm, with a roll width of 1.2 meters./ There are options for rubber coating, which is a square element in the form of puzzles, which are connected together. This option is also good because the damaged element can easily be replaced. The floor of the rubber coating, in my opinion, is just as good a choice for a garage as the next option.
polymer flooring The self-leveling mixture consists of acrylic, polyurethane, epoxy or polyester resins. Installation of such a coating does not differ from the principle of work on the bay of the screed, as already mentioned. After drying, the floor of the garage becomes like rubber, and has all the properties of the floor of the rubber coating. Manufacturers guarantee a minimum service life of 45 years. The only drawback of this type of floor for a garage can be its rather high price - from $ 65 per square meter.
So, we have considered the most optimal floor coverings for a garage. I did not mention the simple impregnation of the floor with a primer followed by painting - this is a fairly obvious way, although not the best. Some simply impregnate the concrete base with used oil to get rid of dust - but this is far from the best solution.
