Mosaic began to gain wide popularity, along with increasing opportunities in the choice of finishing materials. However, if earlier it was a "piece" work for our ancestors, now the mosaic tile can be laid quickly enough. It is not necessary to mount each element of the mosaic separately, if you can buy whole sheets or even separate panels.
The mosaic on the grid is attractive in this respect. It is considered a good alternative to the usual tile for us. The main advantage of this mosaic is the simplicity in decorating the premises. And if you take into account its resistance to moisture and temperature changes, then it can be applied in almost any room.
Rules for laying the mosaic tile
But before you start to decorate the room with this material, you need to familiarize yourself with the "basics" of this design. The basis of the tile is the grid on which the cells are located. It is easy to cut and fit.
- It is better to start the tile from the center of the surface or from the most illuminated area. The fact is that all tiles( grids) have a certain size, therefore, there is little chance that they will be "covered" by an integer. Practice shows that the grid often has to be cut. Therefore, its parts should be located at the edges, in the most dark places, where they will not be so noticeable.
- When creating a picture, you first need to make a sketch. If the pattern is a large format, you will have to remember what scale is.
- The composition of the adhesive, as a rule, is indicated on the packaging of the mosaic. Its color should be either white, or approach the color of the tile. It is better in its composition to consult the seller, since the material of the surface to be decorated and the conditions in the room play a role here( temperature, humidity).Recommended latex adhesive. But it is strictly forbidden to use mastic.
Mosaic laying technology
Before beginning any surface finishing work, it must be prepared. You need to understand that you can paint or paper over wallpaper and not quite flat surface. However, when it comes to a mosaic grid, the requirements for evenness are elevated. There are a lot of ways of leveling, as well as various materials for this kind of work.
The wall's strength can be checked as follows: take a sufficiently long rake( about 2 m) and one of its sides is rubbed with chalk. After that, it is this side, horizontally, applied to the wall. It remains, pressing the rail to the surface, slowly lower it down. Those places that are not painted with chalk are "hollows".It remains to fix them, plaster and again "check" the wall.
First you need to make a markup of the wall. Naturally, the wall should be dry. You can fix the mosaic sheets, say, on the wall( tape, tape) and draw a border with a pencil. This will make the laying smooth, without distortion. Then glue is applied to the wall surface. The drying time is about 15 minutes, so you need to determine how many sheets can be laid during this time. Such a site with glue and process.
The sheet is also applied with glue( this improves the quality of the gluing), after which the tile is applied( paper to itself) to the marked place. It must be carefully "rolled" - for this purpose a rubber roller is suitable, for example.
After the adhesive dries well( 30 minutes), the surface of the tile is wetted with plenty of water. The paper coating soaks, then it is easily removed. Two days later, grouting the tile joints is done, as I said. On the package with the composition is an instruction for its use. When the surface of the mosaic dries( after removing the grout), it is thoroughly polished with a soft cloth.
Important notes
It is necessary to maintain the same distance between sheets when glued, which will be equal to the distance between the tiles of the mosaic.
The room temperature must be at least +5 and not more than +30 degrees C.
