The main types of formwork and their application

There are two types: total

  • formwork;
  • formwork is not removable.

Removable formwork for the foundation is used, as a rule, in those cases when the subsequent finishing of the foundation of the structure is necessary. Thus, the more quality the formwork will be made, the smoother the finished surface will be, which will reduce the cost of finishing works, as well as the materials used.

Note! The most relevant materials for the presented structural element are wood or metal.

The second type of formwork is often made of expanded polystyrene. This material, in addition, acts as an excellent base heater. This, to be honest, will be very useful in those climatic zones of our planet, where the harsh and cold weather.

Materials for the manufacture of

Almost always removable shuttering with their own hands is made of wooden boards. This is due to the fact that second-rate raw materials can be purchased cheaply on any sawmill. The thickness of the boards should not be less than 40 mm, and the width should be of the order of 10 cm.

Attention! The most optimal length of boards for the manufacture of shields is 3 m.

In addition, you will need a beam, the size of which is 40x40 mm. In principle, this is all that you can use to produce not only shields, but also individual elements of the formwork. If you are reluctant to tinker with boards, you can simply rent a collapsible set for the construction of formwork. It is made of metal.

In order to produce a quality shield, we suggest using our advice. Thus, the longitudinal boards are brought together in a single unit by means of transverse cuttings of the board.

Tip! It is recommended to trim the cross-pieces so that they are larger than the width of the entire structure. This will additionally fix the shields, driving them into the ground!

In addition, make sure that the front of the structure is as smooth and smooth as possible. This is done in order to spend less money and materials on the subsequent finishing works of the socle, and it does not matter if it is a foundation tile or ordinary plaster.

We build the formwork on our own

As with any installation work, the installation of the boards must begin with a thorough preparation of the surface. So, the place where the formwork will be installed must be cleaned of dirt, snow or ice. In addition, it is recommended that the soil is carefully leveled so that there are no depressions or mounds on its surface.

When the surface is prepared, you can safely proceed with the installation work. We offer a step-by-step work plan:

  • First you need to drive into the ground bars that will act as supporting elements of the formwork.
  • After this, planks or plywood sheets are stuffed onto these supports. This is in case you did not shoot down the shields in advance.
  • For the fastening use conventional nails.

Warning! In order to strengthen the entire structure, it is recommended to drive nails from the inside of the formwork.

  • Next, in 1 m increments, spacers are placed along the entire perimeter of the base.
  • During assembly work, pay special attention to ensuring that the horizontal and vertical surfaces of the formwork are set strictly in accordance with the level.

Note! Dimensions are checked by a steel meter, horizontal planes by a building level, and vertical by a plumb line.

  • When everything is installed and tested, you can safely proceed to pour the foundation of the future construction with concrete mortar.
