Made of drywall

Drywall is the most affordable material for making a screen for a bath. It is inexpensive, easy and tailor the necessary design from it is not difficult. Of gypsum cardboard make solid screens, which then overlay with tiles.

Screen of plasterboard with their own hands

You can make and install such a screen yourself.

The screen of gypsum cardboard is installed on the frame of the bar, so first you need to build it. To do this, you need a bar size 4x4 cm, fasteners and a metal corner.

To begin with, perform all necessary measurements and apply markings to walls and floors, then draw lines parallel to the resulting markings, but with a 2.5 cm offset in the bath

Then divide the beam into slats. You will need:

  • four slats connecting the corners of the bath with the floor
  • two slats equal to the inner line along the bathtub width minus 0,8 cm
  • two slats equal to the inner line along the bathtub length minus 1.2 cm
  • if the bath is too long, it is better to preparetwo or three slats, which will serve as additional supports.

Steps for making a bath screen:

  1. Position the vertical slats over the outer corners of the bath according to the markings and secure the horizontal rails between them at the top and bottom. You will need to make two such designs for the narrow sides of the bathtub and one for the wide one.
  2. In those rails that will be adjacent to the wall, pre-drill two holes in advance and attach them to the wall. Using screws, fasten all parts of the structure to each other. For the frame to be more stable, it is possible to attach the lower rails also to the floor.
  3. After the frame is ready, you can start making the screen itself from gypsum board. You will need a sheet of moisture-resistant plasterboard, a special metal latch and hinges.
  4. After making the necessary measurements, cut out the necessary details from the gypsum board, leaving a width of 0.56 cm. Then it will be necessary to provide a door that will provide access to the "interior" of the bath. The door can be in the short or the long part of the screen, depending on the location of the bathtub. After defining the place, cut the hole in the desired part and install the door using the hinges and the latch.
  5. After this, fix the planks from the gypsum board to the frame using screws. Do not forget to check the stability of the entire structure.

The gypsum board is ready!

The screen manufacturing method described above is only suitable for standard rectangular baths.

Curved screen also requires a frame. He is going from a special profile for drywall. Such a profile can take any form, you only need to make the necessary cuts on it.

  1. Prepare two such profiles, repeating the contours of the bath - for the top and bottom of the frame - and fix them with self-tapping screws, leaving a distance equal to the thickness of the drywall sheet( if the skeleton is supposed to be tiled, add the thickness of the tile and glue here).
  2. Next, attach the vertical bars to the corners of the bathtub.
  3. After the frame is ready, moisten the sheets of plasterboard with water and, gradually giving it the desired shape, fix it on the frame.
