Tools and accessories
Before replacing the toilet, you need to make sure that everything you need is at hand.
- Toilet with cistern. It's better to stop the choice on monoblocks, in which the toilet itself is fastened to the tank. They are well matched to each other, leakage can not be feared. Rubber seal - trapezoid - between the tank and the toilet is included. If the tank and toilet are purchased separately, then it must be bought. Bolts for screwing the toilet bowl to the floor are also more often included in the kit, if not, then pick up the fasteners of a suitable diameter, usually 10 cm long.
- Hoses and pipes. It takes a flexible hose in metal braid of sufficient length to connect the tank to the water pipe, as well as a corrugated pipe to connect the toilet bowl to the sewer. To them it is necessary to choose rubber gaskets and sealing cuff for corrugated pipe. Flexible pipes allow for a slight variation in the installation location of the toilet bowl and facilitate this work, although the supply of water and drainage can also be carried out using polypropylene pipes, the connection of which we have already written.
- Slim slice of dense rubber 1-2 mm thick for a substrate under the toilet to prevent cracking of tiles on the floor.
- Tool: perforator with 10 mm drill bit for concrete, keys, screwdriver, pliers. If the pipes are metal, you will need a Bulgarian or a hacksaw for metal.
Preparation: remove the old toilet
Before work, do not forget to close the cold water supply and empty the drain tank. The pipe supplying water and the sewer pipe are disconnected.
The old toilet is unscrewed from the floor. If the joint has been smeared with cement or glue, you need to clean it as much as possible with a screwdriver or bit. In the case where the toilet is very firmly adhered to the base, it may be necessary to carefully break it with a sledge hammer. To completely remove all water from the toilet siphon, the appliance is tilted back.
Install the toilet
First you need to mark the installation place. A set of most toilet bowls includes a paper template, which is easy to do. If it does not exist, you can simply make it yourself, and already drill holes and insert dowels in them. Under the base of the toilet, a thin layer of rubber is put, put the toilet itself and tighten the screws with the hexagonal head. It is important not to overtighten them so that the tiles do not crack. The toilet should stand firmly, without staggering or dislodging. The joint of the toilet bowl and the floor is glued with silicone sealant to prevent water and dust from entering it.
The joints of the toilet bowl and the sewer pipe with the corrugation are greased with a sealant, then the gaskets are moistened with water and a pipe is attached to them. To the toilet outlet, the end of the pipe can be connected before the installation of the device, it will facilitate further work in a close room. To connect the toilet bowl to the sewer inlet, and with the help of only the cuff, if you place it close to the wall.
Models of toilet bowls come with 3 types of drain pipe arrangement: parallel to the floor, at an angle of 30-40 degrees and in the floor. The latter are rare and are established primarily in private homes. Choosing a toilet bowl, you need to consider what type of connection the sewage pipe is designed for, then the toilet will be easily installed.
When the toilet is securely fixed, it is possible to install a drain tank on it. The rubber trapezium is applied to the platform in the rear part, and the tank itself is attracted by bolts using rubber washers. First, the bolts are inserted inside the tank, and then pass through the holes in the toilet bowl and from the bottom tighten with nuts. The drainage opening of the tank should coincide with the hole in the toilet bowl exactly.
The internal structure of the tank is different for different models, and when assembling it, one must follow the manufacturer's instructions. Finally, using a flexible hose with nuts at the ends, water from the water pipe to the tank connection is connected. The joints are glued with a sealant or FUM tape, tightened with a key and checked for leaks.
After installation, several test flushes must be carried out to ensure that the water does not leak.
