Warming of sewer pipes or simple execution - great benefit

In what cases is the sewage pipes insulated?

Warming of sewerage is done in two cases:

  • so that in the cold season there is no rupture due to the temperature difference;
  • so as not to form ice jams.

But such situations are possible only if the pipeline is laid incorrectly or if the treatment plant fails. If the pipes are laid at a depth below the freezing layer under the right slope, then insulation should not be done at all. This is connected with the fact that during such installation a considerable part of the time the pipes are unfilled. The effluents flow out at room temperature and wash off ice themselves. In addition, rotting is constantly occurring in the septic tank, which also releases heat that warms the pipe from the inside and does not allow it to freeze.

Exceptions are the pipes that make up the pressure system. Movement in them provides a pump, and the pipe is always filled with drains. It is laid down to a depth of one and a half meters and is insulated without fail. In addition to the above insulation is also necessary in the following cases:

  • with a stacking depth of less than half a meter;
  • when there are turns in the system;
  • with a slope less than half a meter or more and a half meters;
  • if the pipe is periodically clogged.

Note! The last point and gives grounds to believe that the system formed ice jams, which can not penetrate the drains. This serves as a signal for the need for warming.

Materials used for insulation of pipes

Consider materials that can be used for insulation.

Mineral wool is the most economically disadvantageous material. This is due to its low efficiency and high consumption. Unlike mineral wool, polyurethane foam saves heat well. Some types of pipes are produced in a shell of this material, which facilitates their installation. Separately, polyurethane foam is available in the form of a "shell".

Styrofoam or expanded polystyrene is produced in a similar form. Its shape is such that it is put on the pipe, and the edges are taken into the lock, which makes the insulation simple and convenient. Penoizol is a heater that is laid in a liquid form using special equipment. This technology makes the system completely sealed. In everyday life it is practically not used, because it is economically unprofitable to use such expensive work in small areas.

Another material is foamed polyethylene, which has the widest distribution in domestic sewage insulation. Installation is carried out by simply putting it on the side through the incision, which is then sealed with adhesive tape.

Note! Also, there are complex solutions with the use of foil as a heat reflector.

Sewage installation

Before the sewer pipes are insulated, they must be laid. For this, a trench 0.6 m wide is dug out and with a margin of 5 cm in depth. The bottom is poured and sanded. For one meter of length, a slope of one centimeter is made. The pipeline is assembled on the surface, and a heater is put on it. For better fixing it is recommended to wrap it with adhesive tape. This will be an additional protection if deformed from the ground displacement.

Then the pipeline is laid in a trench and sand is poured from above. If there is no sand, then you can use any fill without splinters and stones. Then the trench is filled with soil with a hill. It is not necessary to tamp down it, as it will eventually settle.

Tip! In order to maintain the normal temperature in the pipe and septic tank, it is better to perform the latter in the form of an additional superstructure.
