wall Recently, the most popularand perhaps the only material for making baths was cast iron. Now in the plumbing market there is a huge variety of options: in addition to the already mentioned cast-iron baths, you can find baths made of acrylic, steel, faience, quarls( an alloy of quartz and acrylic), marble and even glass and wooden bathtubs. The assortment is really impressive.

Advantages

Customers are increasingly choosing acrylic baths due to the following advantages:

  • Various shapes and sizes( while the choice, for example, of cast iron baths is very limited), so it is possible to pick up a bath even in the most unusual bathroom.
  • Light weight, which greatly facilitates their transportation, installation and dismantling.
  • Relative ease of installation, this can be handled well and not by a professional.
  • Price availability - for today it, perhaps, the most inexpensive variant.

Cons

But the acrylic bath consists not only of advantages, it is also not disadvantaged:

  • Acrylic is a fragile material. The surface of the acrylic bath can easily be damaged, so it should be cleaned very carefully, with special detergents.
  • Acrylic bath can easily break down under the weight of the one who is in it. To avoid this, it is better to make a special shape of metal.
  • Another disadvantage of such a bath is that it is worse than a bath of other materials that keeps heat.

Acrylic Bathroom with Hydromassage

As already mentioned, you can install an acrylic bath yourself, without resorting to the help of professionals. To do this, just do a little effort and try to follow our instructions.

To install a bath of acrylic, we need the following:

  • drainage siphon,
  • fastening frame( frame),
  • support legs,
  • various fasteners, slats and drills.

All this can be sold together with the bathroom. But it is possible that you will have to buy these materials yourself. Therefore, even at the stage of buying a bath you need to pay attention to the related products and, if necessary, pick up the necessary accessories that are most suitable for your chosen bath.

Preparing the room

The acrylic bathtub is fragile, , so before installing it, you need to make sure that all work on finishing the room, during which it can be damaged( smashed, scratched) has already been completed.

If the bathroom design includes handrails, headrests and other accessories located in the immediate vicinity of the bathtub, they must also be installed before you start installing the bathtub.

Before starting the preparatory work, make sure that the water supply is shut off.

Preparatory stages:

  1. First of all, we need to dismantle the old bath, break the old drain, clean the fittings of the sewer pipes.
  2. After cleaning the sewer socket, it is necessary to insert a corrugation into it and lubricate the joints with a silicone-based sealant.
  3. After all the preparatory work has been completed, all the construction waste must be removed from the premises.

Materials and Tools

For the installation of an acrylic bath we require the following materials and equipment:

  • drill,
  • screwdriver set,
  • wrenches,
  • construction level,
  • sealant, assembly foam,
  • construction meter,
  • simple pencil or washable marker.

If you install the bath on the bricks, you need to stock up directly with the bricks, cement and trowel.

Methods for installing a rectangular bath

Installing the bathtub

There are three ways to install an acrylic bath.

  1. Installation of a bath on support feet and a fixing frame.
  2. Installation of a bath on a base made of bricks. This method is more labor-intensive.
  3. Combined. It involves the use of supporting legs together with a brick frame.

The installation of the corner bath is examined in detail in another article.

On the feet of the

Installing the bath on the legs

If the bathtub you choose is of rectangular shape, the easy-to-use method of installing the bathtub, namely the installation of the bathtub on the support legs, is ideal for it. It should be remembered that, with this method of installation, the bath should be attached to the wall.

Installation of the bath on the support legs includes the following steps:

  1. To begin with, the floor in the bathroom needs to be covered with some softening material, for example, with a wrap film. Next, turn the bath upside down and try on the assembled fixing frame. The assembly guide for the frame usually indicates which indentation is to be followed.
  2. Then, with a simple pencil or flushable marker, note the holes for the fasteners( remember that the frame is fixed no closer than 17 cm from the edge of the bottom of the bathtub or from the sink).Further on the marks drill holes about 0.6-1 cm deep and 0.3 cm in diameter.
  3. After installing the fastening frame, we begin fixing the support legs. To do this, threaded studs screw on the attached parts - adjusting nuts, fasteners and plugs made of plastic. Collected in this way, the legs for the bath are attached to the frame and secured with locknuts. In this case, you need to make sure that the legs are the same in height.
  4. We try the bath together with the already assembled frame on the legs to the future installation site. Using the rule and the building level, we try to arrange the entire structure strictly horizontally. When the desired position is found, again remove the bath from the installation site and install the fixing straps, making sure that the spacing between them coincides with the width of the side of the bath.
  5. We install the bath in its assigned place and connect it to the water supply and sewerage system.

On the frame of brick

If the attachment to the bath is missing the mounting frame and support legs, then the necessary construction for the bath can become a brick construction. This method of installation is great for acrylic baths also because the acrylic baths are very light and fragile, and the brick support will help make our design more sturdy and stable.

Brick frame under the bath

To begin with, we need to make the necessary measurements and lay out a half-brick frame from brick. When building a skeleton, do not forget to provide a hole for the door to ensure access to the siphon in case it gets clogged. It is also necessary to provide a gap between the brick base and the bottom of the bath. This gap we then fill with mounting foam, this will give a more fitting fit of the bath to the base.

To fit the bath as tightly as possible, draw water into it.

Where the bath adjoins the wall, install the fixing straps.

You can do without them, but in this case it will be necessary to fold the frame of a special shape, in which the bath will lie like in a bowl, and this requires professional skills.

On the frame of plasterboard

The frame from gypsum cardboard looks stylish, nice and neat. It fits perfectly into any interior.

First put in place the bath, under which the frame will be mounted.

Bath, under which will be made a framework of plasterboard

Such a frame is made of profiles, aluminum rails and moisture-resistant plasterboard. Before work, be sure to measure the length and width. The stiffeners of the carcass will be installed depending on these values.

After the frame is made, the gypsum board is cut into pieces of the correct size and attached with screws.

Installing the Corner Acrylic Bath

Despite the fact that the corner bath seems to be more cumbersome than the usual rectangular bath, with the right installation it allows you to save considerably space in the bathroom and, moreover, looks unusual.

Corner acrylic bath

If you chose the corner acrylic bath, the always make sure that the angle at which the bath is to be installed is 90 degrees ( as all angular bath models have such an angle). Therefore, before finishing work, walls should be made as even as possible.

The process of installing a corner bath of acrylic is practically the same as the process of installing rectangular bathtubs.

For the installation of such a bath, we use both the above method:

  • on the legs of
  • on brick.

However, it should be taken into account that when installing the corner bath on the legs, you should use a special fixing frame and support legs, which should be included in the kit along with the bath itself.

With hydromassage

Acrylic bath with hydromassage is installed in the same way as acrylic bathroom without such functions. But, when organizing electrical wiring to connect the whirlpool, you need to be very careful. So, it is necessary to ground the outlet to which the bath will be connected and be sure to provide the location of the outlet. It should be as close as possible to the control unit, compressor, pump.

The installation of a whirlpool bath is discussed in detail in another of our articles.

Attaching the bath to the wall

To fix the acrylic baths to the wall, you need to do the following:

  1. Before placing the bath on the legs or on the frame, put it on its side and attach the pipes. Connect the floor siphon to the pipes.
  2. After the bath is installed on the base, seal the gap between the wall and the bathroom. To do this, you can use a gypsum plaster mixture or special sealant, which will also provide a waterproofing of your bath.
  3. On top, for reliability and aesthetics, a plastic skirting board is glued.
Fixing the bath to the wall

After finishing the installation of the acrylic bath, do not forget to make sure of its stability and tightness. To do this, fill it with cold water and see if there are leaks. Doubtful places treat sealant for plumbing.
