We bend the drywall for the arch

Figurative elements in the layout of the room are very popular, so the question - how to bend drywall for the arch, excites many who are self-repairing their house.

Today, experts offer three methods that are actively used in finishing work in living quarters.

The first way of flexing the gypsum board is based on laminating the sheet with a special needle roller. If there is no roller, you can use an awl.

With its help holes are made on the marked lines drawn across the sheet of plasterboard. The holes must not be through.

Only the cardboard coating of this finishing material should be pierced. The side thus perforated must be concave.

After this, the drywall should be soaked, so that only the face was moistened. Otherwise, the humidification will be excessive.

Then the material is placed on a special form. You can also bend the sheet with your hands on the desired radius, insert it into the arch and fasten it.

This method does not require special equipment and tools. It is simple in execution, and after learning how to bend drywall for an arch, it can be immediately used in practice.

But before using it, it's best to practice on small pieces of plasterboard.

In the second method, the large sheet is cut into fragments of the same size and assembled into a curved surface. You can attach each of them to a metal frame.

After that, the surface is treated with putty. This method is suitable for arches and bent surfaces of small size.

You can make small incisions on the gypsum board on one side, and then fold the polyhedral surface.

After that it is finished to the ideal shape with the help of putty. In this case, the surface is also glued with a grid to obtain the ideal arch shape.

For thin construction of the arch, thin sheets can be used without preliminary processing. The sheet is pulled to the frame and fixed with screws.

When bending the sheet in this case, care must be taken not to damage the drywall.

Flexibility of drywall depends on the thickness of the sheet. Depending on the radius of the bend, it is necessary to select the thickness of the hypocarcarton.

So for a radius of 180 cm you need a sheet with a thickness of 12.5 mm, from 130 cm to 180 cm you need a sheet 9 mm thick. With a radius of 100 cm, it is best to bend sheets 6 mm thick.

If a thin sheet is used, two layers can be laid with overlapping seams.
