Interior doors are a very important detail of the interior, which, if properly selected, can give a special charm to the room. The preference for glazed doors has recently been given not only because of the attractive design, but also for purely practical reasons. Due to the presence of glass that transmits light, such doors can be installed in the upper room of the illuminated and unlit rooms, for example, in the passage between the hallway and the room with the window. In this case, you do not have to light both rooms, because the light will break through the glass. True, it is worth noting that it is not advisable to install models of interior doors with glazing in all rooms. So, for example, in a bedroom to create an environment conducive to rest, it is better to install a blanket so that light from the adjacent room does not break through and does not interfere with the sleeper. The main element of the glazed interior doors, which generally determines their appearance, is glass. That's what we'll talk about next.

Types of windows for interior doors

corrugated glass This kind of glass has an uneven surface, due to which, although it allows a large amount of light, it creates a barrier to the visibility of what is happening inroom. Also, another strength of the corrugated glass is its low sound-permeability, which allows to reduce the noise level distributed throughout the apartment or house. This kind of material is made in various color solutions, which allows the doors to organically fit into the overall color design of the room.

coated glass A fairly common option due to its relatively low cost. Thanks to the deposition of special spraying on the surface of ordinary glass, the masters can draw almost any pattern, creating real compositions. Glass interior doors made of frosted glass can be installed in bathrooms and in the kitchen.

Triplex glass

This kind of glass appeared on the market relatively recently, but in a short time received a lot of flattering reviews from both the builders and the end users.

Triplex glass for interior doors is a kind of "sandwich" of two or more sheets of glass, between which is installed a layer of reinforced material. Due to what this material has a fairly high strength, which makes it possible to use it even as a floor covering or for the installation of stair flights. This option will be relevant for installation in the door leading to the nursery. This material is beyond the power to break even an adult.

Frameless doors are very often made of triplex glass. They are installed in retail outlets and office premises. Possessing an excellent noise isolation, such a door can create an atmosphere of absolute silence, while not limiting the room in natural light. Frameless doors are often used to organize an office space in the style of "open space" in many of the world's leading companies.

Polycarbonate glass

This material is an excellent option if you need to make the door strong. Unlike conventional or corrugated glass, polycarbonate, in fact, is a transparent plastic, which almost does not break. The only drawback of this material is that its surface is very prone to scratching. Also over time polycarbonate can turn yellow, losing its transparency. To give Plexiglas an interesting look, it is covered with a decorative film. It can also serve as additional protection against scratches.

Replacing the glass in the interior door with your own hands

Glass, whatever it is, can still deteriorate or break. Therefore, you must always be able to replace it at the right time. Of course, you can just call a carpenter to make the last operation, but you will have to pay much more for such a job than to spend time on it. So you can do it yourself.

So, before the replacement, examine your door and find out how the glass is fixed. They can be two:

  • A quarter fastening, which is often called a glazing bead.
  • Installing the glass inside the door leaf.

If the canvas is assembled in the first way( usually done before), then replacing the glass in the interior door will not be very difficult.

Installation procedure:

  1. The first step is to remove the glazing beads. You need to do this extremely accurately not to break it. To do this, we take a wide screwdriver with a sharp tip, and gently push it into the gap between the canvas and the glazing bead closer to the last nail. If there is no screwdriver, a knife with a thick blade will do.
  2. Gently turn the screwdriver so that the bead is behind the blade. Then we do a similar operation with the rest of the nails. When the glazing bead is completely behind the cloth, we remove it with the help of pliers.
  3. When carrying out the dismantling of quarters, you must remember the sequence of work. The first to remove the side quarters, then - the bottom, and in the last turn - the upper. If this sequence is followed, the risk of falling out of the door will be minimal. Otherwise, you risk breaking the glass. If it was damaged earlier, then the order of removal of the glazing beads does not matter.
  4. Then measure. It should be remembered that the size of the glass should be 3-4 mm less than the seat on each side. Do not try to put the glass back-end. In this case, when the door swells from moisture, they can just burst.
  5. The next step is to place an order in a glass workshop. Do not try to cut the glass yourself. A conventional glass cutter to do this at home will be problematic. With careless handling, a sheet of glass can simply burst, so it's best to contact a professional. Having chosen the type you need, just give them the sizes and in a few minutes pick up the order.
  6. Transportation of glass must be extremely accurate. If the sheet is large, and its thickness, on the contrary, is small, it can "play" under wind pressure and burst. Be sure to wrap the sheet with dense cloth and secure it well. Remember about safety, all work with glass is carried out only in special gloves.
  7. If you ordered a regular glass without a picture, it can be ennobled with a tint or decorative film. By the way, it will make it much stronger. Work on the gluing of the film is carried out on an uninsulated glass. In simple words - first glue, then put.
  8. The process of gluing the film is extremely simple. The surface of the glass is moistened with a light soap solution and gradually glue the film. Before starting work, make sure that the surface is free of dirt, dust particles or grease spots. If they are available, be sure to clean the surface, otherwise the film will not fall well. In order to "expel" air bubbles from under the material, use a plastic spatula. After the glass has dried a little, trim the excess film in the ends, and you can install it.
  9. Once the glass is in place, secure it with the beads in the reverse order.

It's quite another matter if the glass is installed inside the door. Then the repair of the windows of the interior doors becomes somewhat more complicated. Consider the order of installation work in this case:

  1. Usually all new wooden cloths are made in such a way that the glass in them is installed from above. In this case, the door will have to be dismantled. First of all, remove the canvas from the hinges. Remember, the loops are untwisted from the box, and not from the canvas, in this case it will be easier for you to put it in place.
  2. After the door is removed, look for special end caps in its ends. Under them, self-tapping screws must be hidden, which secure the protective cover. After finding the screws, carefully unscrew them and remove the cover.
  3. After that you can get to the glass. Carefully remove it and put it in a secure place so that it does not break. Remember the safety when working with glass.
  4. Then take a pre-prepared sheet and insert it into the groove. When carrying out this work, be careful not to spoil the seals. These elements are responsible for ensuring that the glass does not jar when closing or opening the door. So that they do not deteriorate, grease the edges of the glass with a soap solution, then it will simply slip down, and after drying it will reliably hold.
  5. After installing the glass, replace the cover, screw in the screws and close them with plugs.
  6. Reinstall the door. To do this, take the wedge and put it down the canvas. Correcting it, you can put the upper curtain in the seat. Grab it with a single screwdriver. Then, holding the canvas, put the lower curtain and grab it. After that, tighten the remaining screws. To do this faster, use a screwdriver.

Setting the backlight of interior doors with

glass Recently, a rather popular way to make interior doors is the original setting of glass lighting. For this purpose, an ordinary LED tape is used, which can be bought at any store. Install it only on one side. The easiest way to connect to the lanya is to do this from the side. For this, two power wires are soldered to it. On the side of the blade a through hole is drilled, through which wires are output.

Remember that the tape is designed for 12 volts, so you will need a 220/12 V transformer. It can be hidden behind the door frame, you can also place a switch there. Connect the entire circuit and check that it is working properly. After that, carefully install the glass and press the beads.
