Distinctive features of

The plinth for carpeting is a plastic base of a special shape, often L-shaped. In it, the narrow shelf folds down and is painted, and the broad, facial is provided with an adhesive tape for gluing the carpet. In fact, this is a groove into which a strip of carpet is cut in advance. As a result, you get an element with the same texture and color as the floor covering. It is produced in two types - with and without ribs. In the first case, the fastening is due to self-tapping, and in the second - with the use of glue.

Note! In the West, such a system of decoration fittings used for many years and is very popular.

As you can see, the main advantage of this skirting is its maximum combination with a floor covering, it actually continues it. In contrast to other species, which, if incorrectly chosen, are discordant with the floor and the general situation in the room, the plinth for the carpet is 100% harmonious.

How to mount skirting boards for carpets?

The carpet skirting is produced by rails of two and a half meters in length. This is convenient for its installation, since a minimum of connections occurs, which increases its strength. If necessary, it can be easily cut with a hacksaw on the elements needed for the length. Installation is very simple, so you can do it yourself, without special skills, having only the simplest tools available. For mounting, you will need:

  • Hacksaw for cutting material into necessary pieces;
  • Meter for measurements;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Sharp construction knife;
  • Self-tapping screws.

Before starting work, make sure that the wall is flat, otherwise the bar will not loosely fit, and there will be gaps. It is not necessary to make an ideal wall evenness, the main thing is that there are no protrusions and depressions more than 5 millimeters. If they are, then it is better to align them with putty. After this, the skirting board is cut into the necessary elements for the length. At the joints of the corners, the upper shelves should be cut diagonally so that they fit together densely. Then the plinth is fixed with the help of self-tapping screws with a step of 50 centimeters. The next step is to cut the carpet along the width of the plinth to insert it into the groove.

Important! When cutting, it must be borne in mind that carpet joints should not converge at the corners of the wall.

Tips for choosing

Choosing a skirting board for a carpet is not an easy matter, as it has no special distribution on our market. As already mentioned above, they are presented with rigid ribs and without them. From the point of view of aesthetics, it is better to choose the second option, since with the first carpet it is fixed with self-tapping screws. Naturally, in the future, self-cuts can be covered with overlays, but this is an extra painstaking work. The height of the skirting board can be chosen any, at your discretion.

In addition to special skirting for carpet, you can still find skirting boards made of MDF and other materials. It will depend on your ideas in the design of the room. Regardless of the type of skirting, it should be possible to remove it from time to time in order to clean the carpet, so the fastening should be reliable so that it does not break when removed, and simple enough in the dismantling.

Note! Another "pro" in favor of a plinth with adhesive tape is that when it is removed the strip of carpet remains in place, unlike another method of fastening.
