The one who builds a bath, in the end always faces a problem, which doors to choose. Of course, you can buy a door to the bathhouse, but it is quite possible to make it with your own hands, there would be the necessary materials and desire.

Types of doors

Bath and sauna made up of several buildings, and to isolate each from each other, need the door. At least they need two: the entrance and the one that separates the steam room from the rest room. Ideally, the doors still need to be put in the dressing room and in the washroom. There are several types of doors:

1. The door is blind from wood - it consists of a canvas, which is made of sheet-shaped boards with a lining. These doors are often single-frame. Duplex doors are harder to make, they can only be done by professionals, but they keep the heat very well.
2. Doors for a bath of glass - they are most often installed in saunas, but sometimes they are found in bathhouses. Yet experts believe that they are not suitable for bathhouses. Yes, and buy wooden much cheaper than glass doors for sauna, which are made from not simple, but from refractory glass. It is impossible to make such a door completely independently. From the advantages - this door fits perfectly into the interior.
3. Combined door - it is suitable for those who like glass doors and wood, because it combines these two materials. The wood consists of the bottom of the doors and the frame, and the glass is the top.

Making the door trim

Beginning work on the construction of the sauna door, you need to consider that it will stand in very unfavorable conditions for the tree - at high temperature and humidity. And to keep the heat, the dimensions of the door should be reduced. A door with dimensions of 550x1650 mm is considered a good one. For the construction of the door you will need:

• pine board 0.36x12 cm - for the canvas;
• timber 6.5x8 cm - for strapping;
• lining 1.2х9.6 cm - for the lining.

To make the strapping, it is necessary to perform the following operations:

1. Using a hand-held router, it is necessary to make grooves in the bars according to the dimensions of the profile. First make a rough draft and give a tolerance of 2 mm to the side, it will be needed for milling to final dimensions.
2. In length, you need to cut off the horizontal profiles with a hacksaw and to connect them with vertical profiles at both ends, you need to make seating.
3. Cut the vertical strapping profile.
4. Assemble the frame, modify the markings and make grooves with the milling cutter in the final version.
5. Assemble the frame once more, making sure that the corners are 90 degrees, and measure the dimensions in the seating areas with the door leaf for docking.

Manufacture of door leaf

To make a door leaf from a tree in a sauna or a sauna you need to perform a number of such actions:

1. Use a planer to remove the spike from the extreme board.
2. Place the board on a flat plane, for example, a workbench or table and collect the sheet together. The canvas will consist of boards and they are assembled on the principle of "spike in the groove", starting with the first prepared. In the finished form, the assembled canvas should be more than a door wide by about one board.
3. With a pencil on the door leaf make marks from the original board to the width that is eventually needed. Leave a small tolerance for finishing. The size of the fabric should be the same as the size of the strapping frame.
4. Cut the last board with a saw along. And you can start the final assembly of the canvas: fix the bar exactly on the table, and on it to assemble the canvas, so that the spike falls into the groove. Before this, the spike and groove are treated with PVA glue.
5. After installing the last board, you need to fix the support bars to the table. And with wooden wedges, press the boards against each other. To keep the plane flat, you need to put a flat sheet of chipboard on it and clamp it with clamps.
6. When the glue dries, you need to check the build quality. If the gaps are visible, they must be carefully closed with sawdust mixed with glue. With the help of a plane and sandpaper remove all irregularities from the canvas.
7. Now you need to draw on the canvas the necessary dimensions, you need to push off the outer edge of the extreme board and the ends that connect to the support bar.
8. With a circular saw cut the canvas by marking, and sand the edges with a sandpaper.
9. Make a symmetrical veneer around the perimeter. With the help of the router and the base plates, fix the processed side of the door. Planks are installed so that their faces lie in a vertical plane. And the top faces should be in one parallel with a cloth and serve as a support for the router.
10. After processing one side, all the same manipulations need to be done on the other side. Only the width of the spike should be slightly larger, so that when planted in the harness it could be modified.

Sheathing of the liner with clapboard

The fabric can be sewn with different options. Sometimes during the installation of the strap, and sometimes in this way:

1. The workpiece of the lining must be taken longer than the line that runs at an angle of 45 degrees from one side of the fabric to the other. The workpiece is attached to the sheet by screws. Gradually cover the entire canvas with lining boards.
2. On the paneling outline the contour, so that the circumcised ends were hidden, and the strapping and the lining did not interfere with each other.
3. From top to bottom number each clapboard, then disassemble and trim the marked lines with a hacksaw. Repeat the technology and on the reverse side of the canvas.
4. Trimmed workpieces put in place, each element is attached to the canvas with three screws at an angle of 45 degrees.
5. The edge boards should be fixed from above with self-tapping screws so that the heads are not visible under the strap. And to prevent the crack from appearing in the groove, it needs to be drilled half a millimeter more than the diameter of the samore cutter itself.

Assembling the door for the sauna

Assembling the wooden doors for the bath consists of assembling the strapping around the canvas:

1. On all sides, you need to insert the already prepared workpieces into the studs of the blade, you need to do this without a gap and with a slight tension. If necessary, you need to milled or a thorn or groove. The main thing is that there is no gap between them.
2. Check the build quality and proceed to the last stage: handle all the connecting places with PVA glue and fix the strapping screws. Self-tapping screws should not interfere with the installation of door hinges, so they need to be densely embedded in the canvas and withstand a step of 20 cm. Next, you need to fasten all the strapping elements to the corners.
3. In order to be able to disassemble the door for repair, it is not necessary to glue the lower profile of the strapping.

For finishing the door you will need an abrasive skin, the grain should be both medium and fine. It is necessary to walk particularly carefully at the corners, remove all irregularities on the plane, and sharp areas to round off. As a result, the door should be smooth and pleasant to the touch. The edges can be machined with special milling cutters on a hand-held milling cutter. Now the door can be decorated already to your taste with slats or slats. When the door is installed in the doorway, then already in place it will be possible to attach and handle.

1. There are many variations for the door paneling, all depends on the design of your bath. You can arrange it horizontally or herringbone, or in a combined way. Proceeding from the way in which to cover the door, it may be necessary to install several more decorative strips on the end faces of the lining.
2. When assembled, the floorboards usually have small longitudinal gaps located on the rear side. Thanks to them, it is possible to fit the boards tightly so that there is no gap on the front surface. To eliminate these weak spots, it is necessary to pour sawdust with glue into the gaps.
3. For the manufacture of doors, take wood of one type of wood. Well suited for this linden or black alder. This is necessary in order that when there is a heating or a sharp temperature drop, the door is not deformed. Because different species of wood react differently to such unfavorable circumstances. If, for example, the door leaf is made of pine, and all the other elements are made of linden, but it is covered by a skin, and the steam does not damage it directly, then such a difference of rocks can be ignored.
4. The quality of the material should be treated with all seriousness, if you take sawn timber, then they should not have any obvious defects or through knots. You can admit their presence in the door leaf for the bath and then, just because of the fact that it is covered with plating.
5. If you have nowhere to buy grooved boards or there is no possibility, you can connect them to a quarter sample, you can do it with a hand-held router.
6. If you do not have tools such as a circular saw or a milling cutter, they can be replaced successfully with a chisel and a hacksaw. It is necessary, however, longer to mess with materials. Therefore, if you have already decided to build such a structure as a steam room and make the door to the bath with your own hands, it is better to still get good electrical tools so that you do not waste your efforts and time in vain.
7. For the door to last as long as possible, it is necessary to treat it with linseed oil or other good antiseptic. Particular attention should be paid to the lower part of the door, because the door, as a rule, begins to break down from below.
