What kind of material is it, and why is it needed?

Glass fiber canvas is a material made from mineral glass fibers, also known as fiberglass. It is produced in several types, differing from each other in density( from 25 to 60, the value is larger, the denser the material).

Its main purpose is to prepare walls and ceilings, which are to be painted. The aim is that small cracks from the puttying of the wall are not transferred to the face of the painted surface. This is especially true for walls made of plasterboard and for ceilings.

As practice has shown, even the most expensive and high quality putty blends do not give a full guarantee of the absence of cracks on the joints of gypsum board. The same situation with fresh plaster, especially cement. It is to correct this situation that the glazing of the glass fiber is made, which does not allow this crack to appear.

Glass fiber has the following advantages:

  • This is an eco-friendly material( sand, quartz, soda, clay, limestone);
  • "Web" is safe, does not emit toxic and harmful fumes;
  • Does not store static electricity;
  • This is a beautiful and durable material.

Note! Working with fiberglass does not require special skills, it is carried out on the same principle as working with wallpaper.

Which mixture should I use?

So, how correctly to glue the fiberglass? It is known that it is necessary to apply it only to a mixture specially designed for this purpose. There are many solutions that can keep a "spiderweb", including the usual dry wallpaper paste. But experts do not recommend using it, since it is made on the basis of starch and does not have the necessary strength. The composition of the special mixture includes PVA, which is stronger than starch several times. PVA is used even for fastening furniture, so there is no reason to doubt its strength.

Sometimes a fiberglass sticker is made on plaster, but this is also not recommended. The density of the putty is higher than the density of any mixture, so putty is unable to soak up to the base of the canvas, it will not be allowed to make it the villi of the material. It also does not help wetting the canvas and preparing a liquid putty. Even with experienced masters after applying "spider" on the putty, bubbles appear where the mixture did not have time to soak.

Note! Mixture for glass fiber is produced in two types - dry and ready for use.

How to glue the fiberglass so that the flow rate of the mixture is optimal? Adhesive for glass wool is as follows: from one package of 300 grams - no more than 30-35 square meters. It is transparent and, having dried, does not leave stains, it simply prepares and is ready for use within ten minutes after cooking. It has the following characteristics:

  • Does not leave stains;
  • Environmentally friendly;
  • Caught for 10-48 hours;
  • Frost resistant.

Technology of application of fiberglass

When answering the question about how to properly paste fiberglass, we can say that the technology of glazing glass fiber is quite simple. It is necessary to apply the mixture on the wall( the wall is prepared in advance), then a strip of material is applied, while gently pressing against the edges. Then evenly apply the mixture on the wall to fix the next cloth.

Note! Cloths are lapped in 2-5 centimeters.

With a spatula, the joint of the canvas is smoothed. Immediately, a cut of two strips is made in the place of their superimposition. This is done with a wallpaper knife. The cut strips are deleted. Further on the "web" is applied one more layer of glue and also smoothed with a spatula. On this, the gluing of the fiber glass is completed, and it is ready for painting or applying decorative plaster.
