How to clean the gas column yourself: maintenance and cleaning at home

In order for the gas column to function properly and posing no threat to the premises or the health of the occupants, it is important to carry out such manipulations every year:

• Removing the carbon and soot from the burner.
• Cleaning the heat exchanger, which involves removing the soot, as well as flushing the pipes from the formed scale, if necessary.
• Cleaning of internal equipment components against dust.
• Cleaning of the water intake unit.
• Evaluation of the tightness of the main column systems( water, as well as gas) with the replacement of seals in these systems.
• Evaluating the serviceability of the traction sensor.
• Lubrication of all moving parts in case of need.

First, disconnect the receiver from the housing of the device to make it easier for you to carry out all work with this unit. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the fasteners and remove the cover. Thoroughly clean the filter( usually enough for washing with water) and check the membrane( there should not be concave or deformed areas in it).If necessary, replace the membrane with a new one, install it, and then reverse the assembly of the water intake.

To wash the scale from the pipes, perform these manipulations:

• Remove the heat exchanger from the column, then place it in an empty container.
• Dissolve citric acid in warm water( take 100-200 grams of powder per liter of liquid).
• Pour the product into the heat exchanger.
• After ten to fifteen minutes, drain this solution.
• Well wash the part under running water.
• If necessary, repeat this process until the descaling is complete.

To clean the burner, it is first important to turn off the column and cut off the flow of gas to it. Further your actions should be as follows:

• Remove the cladding by unscrewing the necessary screws and disconnecting the wires that go from the display to the control unit and the temperature sensor.
• Remove the burner and then disconnect the manifold.
• Use a brush to clean the outside of the collector first, then the burner from dust, and then wipe the parts with a damp cloth.
• Using the "ruff", remove the dust inside the part( in internal channels).
• Remove the carbon deposits from the spark plug electrodes, and from the combustion sensor, clean up their contact group.
• Wash the burner with a well-prepared soap solution, paying attention to the internal surfaces of the sections( use the "ruff").
• Next, flush the burner with clean water( flow-through) and dry it.
• Install the part in place.

Plain cleaning of any gas column is recommended to be performed every 12 months, but there are situations when an extraordinary cleaning of the apparatus is required:

• There is a lot of dust in the air of the room in which the column operates. The change in the color of the burner flame will tell you that the device should be cleaned. As soon as the color turns yellow or smoky( normal flame will be blue), then the dust has killed the burner and it should be cleaned as soon as possible.
• In the room where the column was installed, repairs or other works were carried out, which led to the ingress of building dust into the equipment. If you do not remove this dust in time, the risk of ignition of the apparatus increases.
• If the thermal sensors of the column start to operate frequently, the appliance must be descaled because it interferes with the effective cooling of the unit. Also, the excess of scale has formed in the heat exchanger channels, the fluid circulation will worsen.
• Be sure to clean the column if the water has started to heat up much longer than it was supposed to. Also, a direct indication to clean the device is to turn off the speaker after several minutes of operation. If the column is not turned on at all, your first action should also be cleaning it.

If the gas column was dismantled for routine cleaning, while its communications( gas or water) were dismantled and then installed back, new seals are surely installed.

When it comes time for another cleaning of the apparatus, which involves analyzing the gas or water column communications, it is important to check the tightness of the assembly of the device in order to prevent a leak of water or gas.

1. Connecting the pipelines to the column, first turn on the hot water tap, after which cold water is supplied to the unit, opening the shut-off valve in front of the column. Once the device path is filled with water, the hot water tap is closed and carefully inspects all connection points.
2. After connecting the gas line, open the shut-off valve in front of the column. In this case, the equipment should not work. The joints should be rinsed and examined carefully. About leaks and gas leak you will be prompted by the bubbles that appeared in the soaked places.

To assess the serviceability of such a sensor, you will first have to detach the pipe from which the gas is drawn. Then you need to turn on the equipment and set the operating mode, which provides for the complete opening of the gas valve and the nominal water flow. Take the metal sheet and attach it to the gas nozzle, closing it. The column should turn off for two minutes.
