Sealing thread sealant: types and differences in material

The thread sealant for domestic use can be of three basic types:

  • Teflon type tape having a large number of disadvantages is considered to be the simplest type of this material;
  • Mastic and tow, which can be called the oldest methods of carving;
  • Thread sealant, developed on the basis of special solvents.

Important! The choice of a quality product will allow you to be sure of the quality of the threaded connection, especially in the case of gas pipes.

Teflon tape is quite cheap, which influenced its distribution and great demand, but this tool has an impressive list of shortcomings. First, such a sealant can lead to contamination of the pipe. In addition, such a tape rather poorly resists dynamic types of loads, which simply destroy the integrity of the material. An important disadvantage is any lack of fixation, which does not allow checking the density of winding the tape on the thread.

Sanitary sealant, consisting of a wax and mastic, is quite inconvenient to use, has a strong creep and is shrinkable. All this becomes the reason for poor-quality sealing of the pipe material.

Use of a one-component hermetically sealed compound

If we talk about sealants for sanitary ware, then the most optimal option is one-component paste, capable of quickly, reliably and extremely cleanly perform all the required tasks. This product has many positive qualities that can influence the choice of repair masters. Important! The paste should be selected depending on the material from which the pipes are made.

The composition of the paste is such that it is possible to perform installation work with the utmost cleanliness and speed. It is worth noting that this product does not have the property of shrinkage or contamination of the internal space of the pipes. The relative density of the paste structure allows filling even microscopic cracks in the pipes, which completely eliminates the possibility of leakage of liquid or gas.

How to avoid common mistakes in paste application?

The use of any sealant, not necessarily a single-component paste, implies a detailed follow-up to the installation order, which avoids poor-quality connection of the pipe material. Incorrect pipe installation will inevitably lead to leakage after an indefinite period of time.

Important! Do not make mistakes in the choice of sealing means, because this will negate all the efforts of installation.

The pipes must be cleaned and degreased before applying the sealant. Otherwise, the quality of the connection will be quite low, which in such works is an unacceptable error. The distribution of the substance over the surface of the workpiece must be uniform and without obvious surpluses.

When the thread used is large, the material should be applied to both parts to fill all the voids in the thread. When dismantling the material, it is necessary to heat the thread to a temperature of 250 degrees, if the pipe is not plastic.
