Gas column
  • Cotton at start-up
  • Column hums and rustles during operation
  • Column whistles

Usually, the operation of the gas column is accompanied by sounds associated with the flame burning and the flow of water inside the apparatus. However, sometimes the user can hear from the equipment whistling, clapping and other extraneous noise. To understand why a column can whistle and make noise, you need to first learn about the device of this type of water heater, as well as the features of the functioning of gas columns.

Cotton when the

is turned on. If you turn on the column and you hear cotton, this is a sign of problems with the gas supply. Each unit has a working area in which gas accumulates during the switching on of equipment, as well as its gradual connection to air. In the case when the volume of accumulated gas and air meets the manufacturer's calculations, there will be no claps. If gas and air accumulate in excess, this causes a small volumetric explosion.

The included gas column

It causes not just a loud popping sound, but it also damages the chimney, so you must eliminate this situation immediately.

The author of the next video offers his solution to this problem. After watching his video, you can independently get rid of cotton when you turn on the gas column.

Column buzzes and rustles during operation.

The cause of noise during water heating is an insufficient thrust. Therefore, in a noisy working equipment, it is first of all checked by it. A lighted match or lighter is brought to the control holes or a special hatch at the top of the column. If the tongue of the flame has swung to the side of the device, the pull is sufficient. Otherwise, care should be taken to clean the chimney.

Also, noise can be caused by insufficient air flow into the room, for example, if the kitchen has plastic windows installed. Seals in such windows interfere with the natural ventilation of the room. In this case, to eliminate noise, you just need to monitor the air flow.

Another reason for too noisy operation of the column is the contamination of the fuse of the pilot burner. And then to eliminate the noise it is enough to clean the jets. A similar situation is possible when the jets are clogged in the main burner, then after it is cleaned, the rumble disappears during the operation of the column.

Gas column diagnostics

In modern columns that are switched on with electric ignition, the cause of noise in operation can be as follows:

  • Discharged batteries. As a result, the gas-air mixture is ignited with difficulty. In this situation, the battery needs to be replaced.
  • Breakage of the sensor that monitors the water supply. Often, its malfunction is caused by oxidation of the contact group. Usually this sensor is not foldable, therefore it is replaced.
  • A malfunction of the spark plug, which does not create an electric spark. Most often, it shifts after a number of heating-cooling cycles. Returning the candle to its nominal position, you will restore the possibility of a spark and eliminate extraneous noise.
  • The problem with the mechanical ignition moderator. Its presence can be determined after dismantling the assembly and shaking it - normally you should hear the noise of the ball moving inside the moderator. If there is no sound, this indicates the offset of the ball. Return it to the place you can with a soft wire.

Column whistles

If a monotonous loud whistle comes from the equipment, you should first determine where it comes from. To do this, shut off the gas valve, and then open the hot water tap. Further actions depend on the renewal or absence of "trills":

  1. If the whistle has appeared, its occurrence is associated with the water path. The most common reason for this sound is in the deposits of scale in the heat exchanger or in the ingress of foreign objects into the pipe. At the same time, the performance of the column falls. In this case, to get rid of the whistle, it is necessary to clean the heat exchanger from scale, and to wash the foreign object from the column will help reverse flow.
  2. In the absence of a whistling sound, the cause of its occurrence were problems in the gas path. Most often they are associated with a valve defect, which modulates the flame power. Then the whistle appears only at a certain power, and to eliminate it, you need to adjust the power in any direction. Another common cause is clogging up the tract. Whistling sounds in this case appear at any power. To identify the location of contamination will have to conduct an extraordinary cleaning, which is best to instruct a specialist who works with gas equipment.

After watching the next video, it will be possible to clean the heat exchanger yourself of scale without contacting the masters.
