Benches in summer cottages are irreplaceable. If there is a street table at the dacha, then why not come up with self-made benches? In this article, several ways will be described how to make a dacha bench by yourself.

Bench for dacha own hands

Option 1 - Bench with straight back.

Make a bench of logs and long wooden beams with a right back angle is easy. This will require tools and materials:

  • Thick log( girth not less than 40 cm)
  • Wooden squares of a square profile of the same thickness( not less than 6 cm)
  • Boards( thickness not less than 2 cm)
  • Hammer
  • Medium and long nails
  • Saw
  • Drill with drill bits
  • Paint brush
  • Varnish
  • Screwdriver
  • Screws
  • Pencil, ruler and protractor

Feet from logs

You need to cut two legs out of the log. Height while choosing the right one for those who will most often sit on a bench. Both legs can serve as reliable supports if the girth of the log from which they are made will be more than one meter. If the log is not thick, then you can consider a portable version of the bench and a stationary one. The second option is to drive exactly sawn pieces of logs to the wooden floor in the gazebo or their shallow concreting.

Fastening the

All the boards are recommended to be processed before starting to fix them to the support bars. Supporting bars do for the intended width of the bench, and then firmly nail them to the logs that have been felled. Burrs, bumps and irregularities, which can be on the wood, are easily removed by plane and sandpaper. After processing, you can safely nail the boards to the pre-logs driven into the logs. Long nails will come in handy. It's okay if the nails stand on the other side - they can be bent and tucked under a tree. Only before driving nails, it is necessary to drill holes in certain places with a drill, otherwise wood can crack.

Installing the

trimmer bar To make the backrest, you need the treated square bars( diagonal not less than 6 cm).The length of the beam should not exceed the length of the bench. Adding two diagonals of the thickness of the bar, we take this figure from the length of the bench and get the desired length for the beam. We cut off, and then we nail it to the extreme board so that from both edges of the bench we get an equal distance.

Bars and boards for the back

After that cut off the two support parts for the backrest from the bar of the same thickness. The height is about 30-40 cm. Then these parts will have to be compared with the first bar, placing them perpendicular to it in the places left for them. Happened? Then we nail them with long nails perpendicular to the timber-bar on the side and from below to the bench supports.

Then, measure the remaining width of the bench from the rear bar and cut off along this length two more bars of a square section. They will need to be nailed from above to the boards of the bench and from the rear to the vertical bars. Further to the vertical bars you can nail the backboard. Next, you need two more bars, with the ends cut off by the type of an equilateral trapezoid at an angle of 45 degrees. They will need to be nailed to two horizontal bars and passing the nail through the thickness of one of the backboard boards to the vertical bars. In this case, the nails will also be positioned at an angle of 45 degrees relative to the standing bench structure, and 90 degrees relative to the nailed bars themselves.

Advice : it is necessary to remember that it is not worthwhile to hammer nails directly into the tree. It is better to use a drill and make a hole with a slightly smaller diameter than the nails, which will then be there to drive. Instead of nails, you can use screws.

The surface of the wood must be removed from roughness and dirt. For this you can use a clean rag and sandpaper. After that, you can do the varnishing of the finished bench design.

Option 2-A bench with an inclined back.

To make a backrest for the bench, all the same consumables and tools will be needed. The presence of a circular saw would not hurt at all. But if there is not one, then the usual one will do. Shop can be collected the same as in the first version.

Supporting beams

The support bars will need to be made longer than the width of the bench itself. Here you need to take into account the angle of inclination. To ensure that the backrest is comfortable, it is recommended to tilt at least 60 degrees. The distance to be taken into account when sawing the supporting bars is calculated by drawing a straight line from the end of the bench width to the highest point of the back( if drawing is done). From here, you can calculate the angle of cut for the backboard support boards.

The bottom board can be decorated with a pattern and preferably rounded, so it was convenient to sit

Preparing and securing the supports for the backrest and the basic support bars

A simple option is to cut four identical rectangular triangles with the desired slope from a flat board. The inclined angle must be cut from the bottom part under the thickness of the combined sciatic boards and supporting bars at a right angle. Then measure the underside of one triangular board with a small notch - the same distance is necessary for the rest of the support boards from the end of the bench( note with a pencil).

Back

Backrest at the bench

Cut-off support bars can now be nailed to logs. Seats should be nailed to the support bars not farther than the measured distance to the angled supporting boards for the backs( already noted). The beam-bar, which was nailed from above on the boards for sitting in the first variant, is now not required. Four boards in the form of a non-equilateral trapezoid should be at least 2 cm thick. We try them sideways to both sides of the support bars protruding from the back side of the bench and the cut piece to the seating boards. Do not forget to adjust the lower sides of the inclined boards to the lower sides of the support bars. If everything is suitable - drive all four boards with nails in 2 rows, retreating from the bottom side 1-2 cm, and the second row from the bottom should retreat by 2-3 cm. The density of a row of nails is 2-3 cm from each other's hats.

Shutting down

It turns out that now the protruding support bars are surrounded on the sides by boards? Excellent! Now you can cut off the tops for 2-3 cm( this can be done before installation). To the sloping boards from the inside of the bench we nail the backboards( the more nails the better). The design of the bench with an inclined back is complete. It remains to complete the finishing work( clean, sand and varnish), wait until all has dried up and the shop can already be used.
