What is the sealing of the floor?

Sealing the coating is a method of protecting the concrete and wooden substrate from the harmful effects of moisture. If you do not waterproof the bathroom, for example, with a constant moisture source, the coating will deteriorate very quickly, and a fungus can be built in the building, which is difficult to get rid of.

Materials for floor waterproofing are selected based on the following factors:

  • geographic location of the facility, climate features;
  • on which floor is the object;
  • whether there are groundwater;
  • source of moisture;
  • characteristic of the material from which the coating is made.

Important! In order to protect the coating from moisture, it is necessary to seal the surface that is really susceptible to humidity.

For example, if the harmful effect of moisture comes from below, and sealed from above, there will be no sense from the work done. In addition to protecting your cover, you can also protect yourself from the possibility of flooding neighbors from the bottom, making the sealing of the floor in the bathroom and in the kitchen.

When constructing a new building or when overhauling an old one, the waterproofing of the foundation is an obligatory procedure that is included in the list of necessary works of each developer company.

Selection of the material for the waterproofing

Several types of sealants are used to seal the floor covering:

  • coatings are made on a cement base, to which special aggregates and synthetic resin have been added;
  • adhesive materials are made on the basis of bitumen and are applied by means of open flame;
  • membrane sealing is not widely used, since this method is quite expensive;
  • for lifting capillary moisture is best suited injection material, which creates shut-off sealing. This waterproofing is more expensive than the membrane.

The most popular and reliable sealant for coatings are coatings, including mastic for waterproofing the floor. This material is easy to use in living quarters, since it does not require open fire for its application.

Important! Before choosing a waterproofing material for living space, you should consult a specialist.

Waterproofing mastic

This compound is used to protect building structures from moisture. You can apply mastic to concrete, reinforced concrete, wood, metal, etc. Also, this waterproofing is used to seal the pipeline and the foundation of buildings.

Mastic is a universal sealant, as it can be used even for the device of seamless coatings, for example, in pools and basements. Waterproofing can protect the structure of the building from corrosion and the harmful effects of moisture and insects for a long service life.

Important! Mastic has high adhesion and resistance to acid and alkali, so it can be applied to virtually any surface.

Waterproofing mastic is available in three types: polymer, bitumen and polymer-bitumen. Each kind of this material has its positive qualities and range of applications.
