What is better: to paint walls or to glue wallpapers? Both ways are good in their own way. It all depends on where the rooms are supposed to be applied. If it is a bathroom, kitchen and other rooms with a high level of humidity, it is better to choose a paint. In the event that the bedroom, the living room, the corridor will be finished, you can apply wallpaper.
Before asking the question - how to glue wallpaper on the walls, you need to prepare the relevant materials. First, choose the type of coverage. As you know, there are different types of wallpaper - non-woven, paper, vinyl, textile, bamboo and others. Which ones to buy, you decide. But, for example, paper and bamboo are the most environmentally friendly, as they are made of natural materials. Non-woven and vinyl - the most durable and, moreover, can be painted in any color.
Secondly, it is important to choose the right adhesive. Typically, the packaging of each roll lists the most suitable mixture. But there are also universal glues based on bactericide or PVA.They are used in those cases when you still do not know what composition is better to buy, or when applying a combined wallpaper. Dilute the mixture according to the recipe indicated on the packet.
Stage two - prepare the foundation
After you have bought all the necessary materials, the question arises, how to glue the wallpaper on concrete walls and other surfaces. So, there is one common technology. To begin with, prepare the base: it must be absolutely smooth, clean and dry. To do this, remove the past cover from it. If the old wallpaper is eliminated quite difficult, then you need to splash the wall abundantly with water and scrape them with a spatula. If this does not help, then take a wet rag and through it iron the past coating.
The next step is to inspect the surface for cracks and irregularities. When they are found, the base is plastered. After applying the compound, it is necessary to wait until the surface dries. If the walls were painted before gluing the wallpaper, then it is important to slightly sand it, that is, to work with sandpaper( for better adhesion).In some cases, consumers choose the method of leveling with gypsum board.
Stage three - glue wallpaper
Now everything is ready, we learn how to properly glue the wallpaper on the wall. First you need to cut the canvases along the length equal to the height of the room, adding 5 centimeters( to shrink when applying glue).If that, then you can cut off the excess later( at the baseboards) with an ordinary clerical knife. Next, cover the wrong side of the wallpaper with glue( this is not necessary for all kinds), fold the fabric in half so that the composition is properly absorbed. Leave the tentative for about 10 minutes.
In the end, after this time, the wallpaper should be soft, but not soaked through. Otherwise, they simply can tear.
Now you need to paint the wall with the same composition. Then they start to put the cloth in the direction from the window. Glue them from the top down, smoothing out gradually with your hands or rags to eliminate wrinkles and bubbles on the coating. Also remove the cloth squeezed out from under the edges of the glue. Surplus material is cut off at the skirting boards.
When drying, be sure to observe certain conditions for temperature and humidity. Avoid drafts. Close tightly all doors and windows. A kind of "steam room" should be created in the room.
