Reliable laying of paving slabs on a concrete foundation

Laying paving slabs on a concrete foundation ensures the reliability of the track, the site as a whole.

It's all right, because concrete excludes "walking" tiles, is capable of withstanding heavy loads.

But sometimes, when stacking technology is broken, a backlash can occur.

The most common concrete base is used in cases where a large load on the paved surface is planned, such as parking lot, storage space for heavy equipment, etc.

The main task to be solved when laying paving slabs on concrete is the organization of gutters.

If this issue is left undetected, then after the time you can observe the destruction of the masonry. Why is this happening?

Water, getting on the tile, seeps through the seams and remains under the coating for a long time.

In case of changes in weather conditions: frost, warming, water freezes and begins to literally push out the laid tiles.

Therefore, laying paving stones on a concrete foundation, it is first of all necessary to think about not so much about the load that will be applied to it, but how to properly remove excess moisture.

For this purpose, storm showers, point moisture absorbers, make slope and so forth are created. The process of operation is not simple, but it is possible to make tile laying by oneself.

Preparation of the foundation for the paving stone

The concrete base is a monolithic level platform, the process of laying the tiles is easier than in the cement- sand cushion, due to a solid base.

The technology is as follows. It all starts with the marking of the square on which the construction of the track is planned. To do this, pegs are installed along the perimeter, a string is stretched between them.

Layers of laying

It will serve as a benchmark. The height of the thread should be at the level at which the tile ends.

The distance between the cord and the ground must be at least 30 centimeters. Otherwise, the ground layer is removed.

This is also done to ensure that the surface on which the base is located is level. Stones, roots - all unevennesses are removed.

is made with a slight slope to the side opposite to the building or any other structure, near which a track( ground) is formed.

Curbs are installed along the edges of the cleaned surface. You can replace them with temporary wooden formwork.

The first option is preferable for those who are going to produce all the work themselves, without much experience. Thus, the tiles are fixed during laying, the shifts and curvatures are eliminated.

The border should go level with the paving slab, so the cord stretched before will act as a guide here.

If the height of the border is, for example, 50 centimeters, and the opened surface after removal of the ground in height is 30 cm, then at the edges of the grooves should be a level 20 centimeters below the core.

It is also necessary to take into account about 3 centimeters more on the cement-sand mortar( in the ratio 1: 3), with which the curbs are fixed.

You can fit them with a kyanki - a rubber hammer. After a day, the solution hardens, the gap, previously left on both sides, one centimeter between the walls of the curb and the groove, is filled with sand, wetted with a small amount of water and trampled.

After the work done, you can start laying on the foundations of concrete. One way to remove excess moisture is to position the asbestos tube over the entire surface area.

The technology is that the pipe is cut into pieces, the size of which is determined by the height of the concrete layer, the last surface will be poured.

Next, install one part of the pipe per 1 sq. Km.m vertically. After pouring the concrete, they are not removed.

You can replace the pipe with wooden boards, folded in such a way that a square appears, which you will have to remove after the work done.

Then a layer of crushed stone or gravel, the thickness of which should be 15 cm, is rammed.

If you plan to use the site for heavy equipment, then it is necessary to put a reinforcing mesh on rubble. The concrete is mixed and poured in layers.

The gap between this work should be one or two days, so that the first layer hardens a little.

If the area of the surface to be filled is large, then every 3 meters, temperature joints are made: a board with a thickness of up to 1 cm is installed on the edge.

After setting the concrete, the boards are removed, the resulting joints are filled with elastic material. Such actions prevent the faults that can occur due to a temperature drop.

The last layer of concrete is made more liquid, because it is leveling.
Possible way of laying tiles on an old concrete foundation.

Do it better when planning a pedestrian walkway, that is, heavy loads on pavement are excluded. Otherwise, deformation of the masonry may occur.

Laying of paving slab

Laying paving slabs on concrete is carried out in two ways: on a sandy-cement mortar and on a sand-cement dry mix.

Before starting to work, it is necessary to make a preliminary laying of paving slabs on concrete in order to determine the patterns and pattern, if necessary, leave marks.

  1. The first method involves a thicker consistency of the mortar than when pouring a concrete base. To exclude the ingress of small stones, sand is best sifted. These actions are necessary for a more proper paving stone paving with their own hands. The solution layer( 2-3 cm) is applied and leveled with a construction trowel;
  2. The second method involves the use of sand and cement in a 3: 1 ratio. With your hands, a dry mix is made and laid out on the prepared base. Then everything is leveled and tamped. Laying pavers is done with the help of a kayak. When the path( platform) is laid out, then it is abundantly watered. It is given some time for the tile to dry, and the filling of the seams begins. After that the path is again abundantly watered with water, all dirt and cement residues with sand are washed away.

General recommendations for laying tiles

Laying paving slabs on concrete starts from the curb. You need to move in the direction in which the water should flow.

It is not advisable to lay a joint in the joint, it is necessary to leave gaps of about 5 mm. This is called the temperature seam, which allows you to exclude cracks, possible movements, curving tiles.

It will be easier to achieve level masonry if you use two levels in your work. The first, shorter, is necessary to verify the correct laying of a nearby tile.

The second, longer, to verify the correctness of most of the styling.

Tiles are laid down by slight pressing into the solution. Align the paving stones with a rubber mallet or kiyankoy.

If the tile is laid unevenly, then you can use a wide board, which pushes a number of pavers. The board is taped with a rubber mallet.

This alignment method eliminates the use of a vibration plate. The difference is that the plate compactor is used at the end of the work, the board - after each laid row.

Seams between tiles are wiped with fine sand or sand-cement mixture. Sand contributes to the preservation of the masonry, as well as the seepage of water, so the water disposal in this case must be done necessarily.

Grout with a sand-cement mixture creates a monolithic surface. The penetration of water in this case is practically impossible.

Armature for tiles

But such a method of grouting at high loads, for example, when the car enters the site, contributes to the appearance of cracks.

Any paving slabs, paving stones with temperature differences has the property to expand. The monolithic surface has no thermal seams.

The process of grouting your own hands is that fine sand or a mixture of sand and cement is scattered on the surface, and the seams are gently started to "sweep".The tool for this is a regular broom.

Rules for laying pavers

There are rules for laying paving slabs on concrete that are better not to be neglected:

  • You can not work on the production of a path in the rain;
  • The base must be level;
  • Tile laying is performed on a "top-down" or "off-line" basis;
  • The drainage system( inclination, rainwater drainage, drainage) is necessarily considered;
  • First put whole tiles, cut - at the end;
  • Sand when grouting should be clean, without roots of plants and other debris;
  • At the end of the work, it is necessary to give the path( ground) "rest" 3-5 days;
  • Pins for pulling the cord are put as often as possible, excluding the sagging of the thread.
