Importance of heat insulation of chimneys. How to insulate the chimney qualitatively and quickly

The main task of the insulation is: do not allow the inside of the pipe to cool and prevent the heating of the outside. It is known that the most problematic and dangerous place of this design is its passage through the ceiling and roofing structures. Most fires occur precisely in this place, which means that the insulation will not be superfluous. It will reduce the external temperature of the structure, and thus increase its safety.

In addition, some chimneys include aggressive chemicals that enter the condensate due to the temperature difference between the chimney material and the smoke. This adversely affects the entire system of the chimney, namely, the material is destroyed. Warming the chimney pipe increases its gas density, which means that in case of any damage, the combustion products do not enter the house.

Popularity is enjoyed by several designs, using a heater for chimneys. Let's consider each of them:

  1. Sandwich construction. This device is assembled at the factory. It consists of an external and internal pipe, and the space between them, fills a special insulation for the pipes of the chimney. Most often it is either fiberglass or basalt wool.
  2. Ceramic modular systems - ready-to-install chimney systems.
  3. Prefabricated structures. They include: inner tube, outer lining and insulation.

Let's look at how the chimney insulation works according to the two most common methods:

  1. Thermal insulation of the chimney by wireframe technology. They construct a special structure that performs the function of protecting the chimney. The gap that remains between them is filled with materials for thermal insulation. They are mainly used for asbestos-cement, steel and ceramic chimneys.
  2. Wet method of applying a heat-insulating layer. As a heater use a plaster mixture with special additives. Apply for the insulation of the chimney of brick.

How to insulate brick, asbestos-cement and steel chimneys. Recommendations for the insulation of the exhaust pipes

To make a high-quality insulation of the chimney from the brick, you will have to do the plastering work. Moreover, the more layers, the better insulation. The pipe is cleaned, primed, the masonry is covered with reinforced mesh and then the prepared mortar is applied to the chimney. When installing reinforced mesh with the help of fasteners, the through penetration of the chimney is prohibited. For a solution, choose heat-resistant materials. When proceeding to the plastering work, perform the first layer with a small thickness of 2 to 4 cm. The mixture must completely cover the reinforcement. Each subsequent layer is applied after the preliminary priming. They should be at least 3, but not more than 5. Only under such conditions, the insulation of the chimney will be effective.

Also, the insulation of the chimney from the brick is possible with the help of mineral materials( basalt slabs), while the thickness of the layer should not be less than 5cm. The heater is fixed with wire pieces or with foil tape.

Thermal insulation of chimneys made of asbestos-cement or steel is based on wireframe technology. The result is a composite sandwich. Before you insulate the pipe, make the outer frame using a conventional galvanized iron sheet. The diameter should be rather large, so that the heater can fit( it is very important that there are no voids in its layers).The edges are connected by bolt spikes. After you decide on the heater, you can proceed with installation.

Heat insulation of the hood is much easier in terms of installation work, since the exhaust pipes are not exposed to elevated temperatures. The easiest way to apply a wooden box, which must be filled with a special thermal insulation material. The surface is covered with any trim, it all depends on your preferences.

As you can see, everything is quite simple. Having insulated the chimney you will receive:

  • its longer service life;
  • save the design from possible damage;
  • ensure the safety of tenants at home.
