Properties

  • tensile strength;
  • resistance to various climatic influences;
  • long service life;
  • does not require special maintenance.

The ruberoid is produced from special roofing board of special density. Initially, it is impregnated with oil bitumen, after which the upper layer is covered with refractory bitumen with an admixture of various powders. Due to this, the melting point of the outer layer of the material is about 80 ° C.In the article you can see photos and video reviews of roofing paper.

Ruberoid types

Ruberoid is divided into two classes:

  • roofing "top" with a thickness of 4.5-5 mm;
  • lining "low" with a thickness of 3-3.5 mm.

There are several kinds of roofing felt. The main difference is in the type of powder.

  1. With one-sided coarse-grained powder. Can be used as a waterproofing, or for laying on the upper and lower layers.
  2. With coarse-grained dusting on both sides. As a rule, powder is a stone crumb. This kind can only be used at the top of the roof.
  3. With scaly powder from mica shale. Can be covered with one or both sides. Used to build the top layer of the roof.
  4. With fine-grained powder. Can be processed from one or both sides. The material is applicable as a waterproofing, or in the lower roofing.
  5. With pulverized powder. Also suitable for the lower layer of the roof and as a waterproofing.

Technical characteristics of roofing material

The most common is roofing felt of RKP-350 brand. Technical characteristics allow to use it as a backing layer, or as a temporary roof covering. Its parameters:

  • Weight - 24 kg;
  • Tensile strength at tension, not less than - 274 N;
  • Water absorption for 24 hours, no more than 2% by weight;
  • Temperature of flexibility on the beam R = 25mm, not higher - 5 ° C;
  • Heat resistance, not less than - 80 ° C;
  • Coating type: top - talc, bottom - talc;
  • Length - 15 m;
  • Width - 1 m;

Below in the table you will find the technical characteristics of other kinds of roofing felt:

Using different composition, manufacturers produce other types of roofing material:

  1. Tol - consists of roofing board impregnated with shale substrate.
  2. Rubemast - a more rigid kind of material, which contains a very viscous bitumen.
  3. Steklorrueroid - ruberoid, produced from fiberglass.
  4. Euroruberoid - consists of polyester or fiberglass.

Regardless of the type and class of material, its quality can be determined by weight. The more weight, the more in the composition of bitumen. Accordingly, such a ruberoid will be better.

Ruberoid is widely used in large construction projects and in private farms. The installation of the material does not require special knowledge or skills. Therefore, it is very popular with waterproofing the roof, or the foundation of houses, sheds and other farm buildings. According to professional builders and private craftsmen, roofing felt is the most practical roofing and waterproofing material.

Benefits of

  1. low price;
  2. availability( sold in any construction shop);
  3. easy installation;
  4. versatility( some types are used as roofing and waterproofing material).

Disadvantages of

Relatively low strength. Some varieties, for example, only have a short lifespan. When waterproofing underground facilities will not protect against groundwater.

Given all the pros and cons, we can conclude that the roofing material will be a complete roofing material for a long time.
