How to choose a false ceiling?

Suspended ceiling in the bathroom is one of the most practical and common solutions among the population. But the huge choice of materials for such structures in the modern market often puts the buyer-layman at a dead end. This construction consists of a metal frame, which is fixed to the main ceiling with hangers, and cover. According to the properties of coatings, the following types of suspended systems are distinguished:

  • Gypsum plasterboard.
    If you decide to install such a ceiling in the bathroom, you should be aware of its impracticality. But categorically refuse this idea is not necessary - you just need to figure out how to protect it from getting wet.

  • Cassette.
    Cassette suspended ceiling in the bathroom is suitable only for a very large area in view of the complex construction of the base, which consists of aluminum profiles forming rectangles on top of which are laid special slabs.

    This ceiling consists of lattice-like cells closed from the base side by a special substrate. For the bathroom, this option does not quite fit. It is mainly installed in various institutions, railway stations and offices.

    But if you decided to install a rack system, then you definitely did not make a mistake!

    It is a fairly lightweight construction: a frame on which aluminum, wooden or plastic slats are attached. The latter are in great demand among consumers due to their low cost, practicality and ease of installation. The average length of the panel is 3-5 meters, and the width of the rail is 10-15 centimeters. They are joined to each other by bent edges.

    Remember! The type of suspended ceiling chosen by you must match the parameters of the bathroom. The larger the room is by the quadrature, the more kinds of suspended ceilings will fit there.

How to install a false ceiling in the bathroom with your own hands?

The plasterboard suspended ceiling in the bathroom is a means of translating your design experiments into reality. Gypsum not only has a number of advantages over other materials( the main ones are environmental compatibility, air transmission, which is important for a favorable hydrobalance in the room), but also significantly transform the bathroom interior.

Having selected a design design and having defined with quantity of fixtures, start fixing of the future roof.

First of all, you need to make markings on all adjacent walls. To do this, draw a line that repeats the projection of the outer surface of the future roof, mark the location of the wall profiles and parts of the frame.

The base is then assembled taking into account the frequency of the carrying rails according to the load - 15 kg of drywall per meter square.

Next, a few more metal profiles are attached, which will hold the chandelier, if it is provided. If you want to limit to spotlights, then it will be sufficient to make appropriate holes in the drywall.

And now we have come to the final stage - fasten the plasterboard sheets to the finished frame. This is done with a screwdriver. The distance between the screws should be no less than 25 centimeters when deepening into a sheet by 1 mm. Sheets are cut with special knives. In the end, do not forget to process the seams and the joints of the drywall to other surfaces with a special self-adhesive tape. One of the most important details when installing is the treatment of plates with a special waterproofing solution. Before the installation, they are treated with a "moisture barrier" primer, which protects the surface from moisture, steam, water for many years. For greater effect, it is better to apply several layers of such a solution. Keep the next layer on an absolutely dry surface, i.e.on the dried up previous.
