Especially for those who want to choose the right bathroom door, we have compiled a list of requirements and examined various types of materials in the previous article.

Bathroom door

Standard dimensions of the

Some naively believe that all doors have a standard size. In fact, the so-called "standard" is not so common. Of course, the door is 200 cm in width, 60 or 70 cm in width.

Of course, the most popular door sizes are similar to the standard ones:

  • the size of the kitchen opening is usually 200 by 70 cm,
  • bedrooms and hallways - 200 x 70 cm,
  • bathroom and toilet -190 cm by 55/60 cm

As you can see, the doorway of the bathroom and toilet, as a rule, is narrower than in the other rooms.

Double-wing

It is most common to install double-leaf doors with dimensions of 200 cm * 120 cm or 200 cm per 160 cm: each leaf has a value of 60 or 80 cm.

The thickness of the opening varies from 5 to 8 cm.

It should be remembered, that non-standard door leaves usually cost almost 2 times more expensive than standard models. If you have a non-standard door, you can make some effort and adjust the doorway.

These doors can be installed in any room with a wide opening. And the bathroom is no exception. Of course, in standard houses it is unlikely to be in demand, but in spacious luxury apartments or private houses with a bathroom area of 15 m².it will look very impressive.

Rules for calculating the size of the door leaf

How to measure the doorway? For this we need several values: height, width and thickness of the box. First you need to dismantle the door and the cladding( if you have not already laid a new tile or other material, do not forget to leave a small stock).

  • Height measure the tape measure from the floor to the top of the wall.
  • The width is measured from one wall to the other.

Do not forget that the door frame must be dismantled before taking measurements.

The thickness or depth of the doorway is in other words the thickness of the wall itself. If we talk about the thickness of the bathroom wall in comparison with the wall thickness in the living room or in the bedroom, it is usually an order of magnitude smaller, about 5 cm). Also, a couple of centimeters should be added to the door assembly( on each side).

Now we have to calculate the size of the opening for our door. There is a simple algorithm for calculating the door size:

  1. Measure the width of the opening by adding 1 - 1.5 cm( for the gap between the box and the wall) and 3 cm( for the gap between the canvas and the box).
  2. To calculate the width, add the thickness of the box multiplied by 2 and the gaps to the width of the canvas.

The height is calculated according to the same scheme, only the threshold( if any) should be taken into account, the value of which is about 1.5 cm.

The device is required if the width of the box is more than 8 cm. This means that you need to "build up"wall, which is not enough to install doors.

Door installation

The opening is smaller than the

If the doorway is smaller than the door size, the following options are possible to correct the situation: The

  • door can be trimmed - this process was discussed in detail in the previous article. The disadvantages of the method can be attributed to the fact that this often has a very negative impact not only on the appearance, but also leads to a reduction in the life of the door;
  • to expand the opening. This option is more expensive, but quite acceptable. We will investigate it further.

Both options are possible, but it is better, as they say, to measure seven times and cut off once!

The opening is larger than necessary

This procedure will be to reduce the doorway with plasterboard:

  1. We are dismantling the old door frame.
  2. We clean the opening.
  3. The edge of the wall, adjacent to the doorway, clean off the plaster, etc.
  4. We install the profile profiles in the opening and on the floor. Please note that afterwards the installed plasterboard will have to go level with the wall( including finishing).
  5. Sets the profile to the ceiling of the opening.
  6. Profiles are installed along the edges of the door opening. Another profile goes in the middle.
  7. Cut out gipsokartonnye sheets of the necessary size and we fasten them to a profile by means of self-tapping screws.
  8. Similar work is done on the other hand.
