From the name it is clear that models of vertical radiators have sometimes quite a significant height, but their width is the opposite - a small one. Here, perhaps, and the only difference. There is no particular difference in connection schemes( connections), performance( monolithic or sectional), and otherwise nothing. Advantages of
There is no sense in explaining how sometimes it is difficult to fit a traditional battery into the design of the room. Vertical construction is more convenient in terms of "compatibility" with the furnishing and decoration of the premises, it introduces an element of novelty and elegance( although this is also an amateur).In addition, such products are distinguished by a variety of shapes and colors.
Possibility to install in almost any part of the room without restrictions( for example, in a niche, on the side of the column or on it, between cabinets), while horizontal products require more space.

Disadvantages of
With all the same parameters, the heat transfer of vertical batteries is slightly lower than the horizontal counterparts. This is due to the fact that warm air masses always rush to the ceiling. Consequently, the upper part of this radiator works almost "idle".The natural question is, why heat the air under the ceiling, if it's warm there?
That's why horizontal batteries, located near the floor, work more efficiently, because the whole surface is involved in heating the air.
Because of the large dimensions, the vertical batteries are quite massive. Therefore, their installation is made only on a solid foundation - the capital wall, the partition of the brickwork and the like. Mount them on cellular concrete is not worth it, since fasteners quickly "loosen up".
Some difficulty in the care - will have to climb up the staircase( stairs, high chair and so on) to wipe the dust from the top. For older people, this is unlikely to bring pleasure.
It is advisable to connect only from below, otherwise the pipes will drag up the wall, which will not add to the attractiveness of the room. For horizontal radiators this is not so important.

For example, the product "Stelrad VERTEX"( 1.8 x 0.4 m, depth 12.9 cm) with a capacity of 1.1 kW will cost 19,240 rubles. The same model with a width of 50 cm and a depth of 10.4 cm is characterized by a power of 0.94 kW, but it costs 31,450 rubles( at the same operating pressure of 10 atm).

Probably, only because of the originality of the engineering solution, non-standard design. Manufacturers evaluate such products more than horizontal analogues. There can be no other explanation. But to overpay only for the "unusual" appearance does not make sense. Unless in cases when it is the vertical battery that is more suitable in a particular place chosen by the owners( on the basis of convenience), or if they like to stand out with something original, including, and heating appliances. If this is not necessary, then choose the usual bimetal radiators.
