Hand drum winch - how easy is it to cope with the load?

Which is better to choose?

The winch is a mechanical device necessary for moving and lifting the load. Today, electric appliances are very popular, but manual ones are also often used. Their main advantage is reliability, simplicity of design, ease of use and simple maintenance. However, manual winches require direct energy consumption for manual lifting, this somewhat reduced their popularity.

But for people who use it several times a day to deliver small loads, it is ideal, as there is no need for these purposes to buy an expensive and complex automatic mechanism. Winch drum manual has two types: worm and lever. In the worm rope is wound on the drum. Drum drive operates on the principle of "infinite screw" Archimedes. The advantages of this mechanism are compactness and low reverse force. But when moving loads, you need to put more effort.

In the lever winch, the drum is wound onto the drum by means of a ratchet or lever. This device is compact and can be used "on weight", that is without rigid fixation. Its greatest advantage is the ability to exploit it in the most uncomfortable places, and the price is not high.

Note! By design and operation, these types of winches are almost identical, the difference is only in their properties and strength characteristics. Winch manual drum: how does it work?

Winches can be produced with one, two and three reels. The double-drum winch is widely distributed, as it reduces the cost of physical energy to lift cargo. It is a frame on which are placed drums mounted on shafts and rotating on bearings, and an intermediate shaft. The rotation of the drums is carried out at the expense of the snapper through the gear train and the functional device. It also has a belt brake, which makes it possible to stop the operation when an emergency situation occurs.

Note! Two-drum winches can be with vertical and horizontal drums.

The mechanism works as follows: the handle drives the gear train and through it the shaft on which the drive gear is located. The gear is engaged with the pinion gear and fixed to the drum shaft. In the gear, from the front side, there is a friction consisting of trapezoidal ring pads. The winch drum has an annular recess in the butt which corresponds to the dimensions of the clutch. The rope is attached to the drum, and when working, it is wound up, thereby raising the load, whether it is a bag of cement or a drip pan.

Save - do it yourself

Lifts for light loads can be done by yourself. This eliminates the need to spend a decent amount on a mechanism that does not fully cover its costs. The manual drum winch is executed by its own hands according to the corresponding drawings. Assembly is as follows:

  • Three sliding legs are made from a pipe with a diameter of 20x20 millimeters. One leg is welded hard, and the other two are made pivoting so that the mechanism can be folded.
  • The central stand is made of a profile 80x80 mm, legs will be fastened to it. Also, a piece of the profile 60x60 mm is welded to it. It increases in width so that it can be put on a telescopic rack.
  • Telescopic part consists of three profiles: 80x80 mm, 60x60 mm and 40x40 mm. Racks are mounted one into one and are pulled out by pulleys.
  • A table is made. Four profiles 30x30 mm are welded together so that the shape of the letter H.
  • is inserted into the longitudinal part of the table. A pipe with a diameter of 20 mm is introduced into the longitudinal part of the table, with segments at the ends of 30 mm that create side supports.

Important! This design is suitable only for light loads. Thus, the winch will consist of a chassis, a telescopic pole and a swivel barrel. The speed of the assembly depends entirely on your skills and abilities.
