Insert the broken window glass into a simple wooden frame in your own strength. If the transom is in a hard-to-reach place, it is best to remove it from its hinges before starting work and put it on a horizontal surface. Take care when handling glass. Do not put it flat on the floor to not accidentally step on. Leaning the glass against the wall, throw on it a bright rag or newspaper.
To insert glass into the window you will need:
- window glass;
- Roulette;
- glazing bead;
- chisel;
- hammer;
- silicone sealant;
- building gun;
- pliers;
- sharp knife;
- hacksaw.
1 Put on thick leather or cotton gloves. When working with glass, you must protect your hands from accidental cuts.
2 Apply generously to a cracked glass surface pieces of tape, tape or tape. Unroll a few newspaper pages on the windowsill to avoid scratching the paint.
3 Now you need to clean the putty or remove the glazing bead, depending on what kind of fastening is in the glass in the frame. Scrape it with a sharp knife or a thin screwdriver. To remove it in those places where it withered and hardened, tap the handle of the knife or screwdriver with a hammer. You can soften the putty with hot air from the hair dryer or soldering iron. Carnations or hairpins pull out with pliers. Remove the grate bit by gently prying it with a screwdriver or chisel.
4 Remove the broken glass from the frame. Pre-spread on the floor or on the table newspaper sheets, they fold glass fragments. Wrap and take out the garbage.
5 Strip the wooden folds in the window frame until smooth. Do not stick out the wreckage of the nails, rush the bumps from the putty or wood burrs. Work chisel, file and pliers.
6 Remove the dimensions for the glass. Measure the internal values of the cleaned folds. Take 3 mm from each size. This must be done so that the glass does not burst during expansion. Order the cutting of glass to your size in a special workshop. Measure how much glaze you will need.
7 Buy a glazing bead and a white or transparent silicone sealant in the building shop. If you carefully pulled out the bead when removing the glass, then you can use the old one. When buying sealant, pay attention to the instructions on the package. The window frame will be exposed to large temperature changes, so that the silicone should be suitable. When using a sealant in tubes, you will need a construction gun. Either buy a sealant packaged in syringes, but this is unprofitable.
8 Type the glazing bead in size with a small hacksaw. Fill it with thin window studs so that when positioned in a frame, the carnations go parallel to the glass.
9 Lubricate all the seals with silicone sealant. Put on the lower part of the frame a pair of matches for the gap and install the glass. Gently press it against the frame from all sides, pull out the matches.
10 Beat the glazing beacon. The glaze must be covered with paint. This can be done before installing it in the frame or during the full coloring of the window.
