  • put two boards that should be placed parallel to each other;
  • from above we lay a sheet of shingles;
  • the layout of the boards should be equal to the section for fixing the shingles. In this case, the resulting improvised cornice should contribute to the necessary flow of water;
  • if the size of the cornice is more than is required, the flow of water will overflow through the trough. Otherwise, water will flow to the wall between the frontal board and the gutter.
  1. At the end of the installation of the crate, the next step will be the installation of end plates and ridge boards. For the strength of such a bar, you should additionally nail boards with a section of 25x100 mm. They need to be mounted in the place where the ridge is fastened.
  2. Lay the first sheet of shingles in such a way that its edge extends 30-40 mm beyond the ledge of the cornice. Due to this, water from snow and rain will immediately fall into the gutter without penetrating the cover.
  3. In places where pipes, windows of the attic or skate are adjacent, the crate must be laid with a continuous flooring. In the area of ​​the ridge, the width of the board can be made larger, since here, in addition to the edge of the profiled sheet, the metal profile must also be fastened.

Rules for calculating the step

There is a recommended step size of the battens, which is 350 mm. This distance allows you to mount the cover sheets at the bottom of the wave. However, such an indicator is not universal. The following rules will help to determine the correct pitch of the step:

  1. The space between the boards depends on the type of roof. This value is determined by the distance from the bottom of the first board to the upper section of the next.
  2. In addition to the type of roof during the calculations, it is necessary to take into account other moments that determine the step of the roofing: the size of the eaves, the roof slope, the gutter parameters.
  3. If there is a gutter installation, you need to add at least 3 cm to the ledge. For example, if the diameter of the chute is 9 cm, you need to make a projection of the same size. And with a diameter of 12 cm - a little more.
  4. The size of the protrusion is calculated from the front plate. In the absence of such an element, the calculation must be made from the cutting of the rafters. For the necessary water drainage, the protrusion index should be determined depending on the ridge angle. The smaller the angle, the larger the projection. Based on these indicators, the calculation of the step is determined.
  5. We calculate using a level up to 1.5 m in length. Measure the space between the upper part of the first wave and the lower edge of the shingles. Then on the rafters put a mark on the level. This indicator will be equal to the level of fixing the board.
  6. The first board should be somewhat thicker than the others in order to support the weight of the roofing material. The remaining fragments should be nailed in accordance with the marks that need to be applied through two rafters, given the size of the roofing profile.
