Slopes of foam plastic - an alternative to classic materials

Advantages over the "classic"

Slopes are a special system that allows you to close the openings between the facade and the window. They are installed after the window is replaced. Its purpose is to seal the window from moisture penetration, heat loss of the room and the elimination of drafts. When replacing the window, the wizards that do this work do not always mount the slopes, but only install the window itself. In this case, the mounting foam that holds the window will very quickly become unusable, and crevices will appear.

Previously, slopes were made of plaster, various building mixtures and paint, but this technology is not reliable, as the concrete crumbles over time. Also, some people use plastic panels for this, but they are not suitable for this purpose, because they are deformed under the influence of atmospheric precipitation. Today slopes use materials made of plastic, metal and foam. They have a number of advantages:

  • Long service life;
  • Do not rust and do not lose their shape;
  • Increase the degree of thermal insulation of the window;
  • Easily mounted;
  • Give the window an aesthetic appearance.

Cutting sheets of polystyrene foam

Finishing of windows with foam plastic begins with the cutting of the material. The dimensions of the slopes will completely depend on the size of the window itself. It should be borne in mind that they must be planted to the full depth. Uncrossing the material, connect all the parts together with glue. To do this, the adhesive is applied to the seams and left for a few minutes. After this, the blanks are joined, strongly compressed and left for about an hour to dry the mixture.

Note! It is necessary to glue two pieces, and not all slopes into one structure.

For greater strength of the foam, its reinforcement is made of fiberglass. To do this, it is cut into strips as wide as a slope. Strips are fastened with a stapler and are strengthened with glue. After the glue dries, the reinforcement is covered with a layer of putty. Also, you can first apply to polystyrene putty, glue the reinforcement and top once again to putty. On the inner edges of the slopes, the reinforcement is glued with an overlap - these "tails" are then glued to the wall.

Step-by-step mounting of slopes

The window slopes of foam plastic with their own hands are mounted as follows:

  1. The wall is primed and the adhesive is cemented into the surface to adhere the foam to the surface;
  2. Adhesive for the material is applied with a spatula with a tooth of 10 millimeters;
  3. A prepared slope is glued to its place. Verticality and horizontality are checked by level;
  4. Joints between different parts must be glued;
  5. After this, putty fill the gap between the slopes and the wall.

Important! Place under the ebb should be well lubricated with glue, so that it fills all the cracks.

After all the parts are attached, a layer of putty is applied on them. First, a thin layer is applied on which the glass mesh is fixed. At the corners are attached special angular profiles. After this, a second layer of plaster is applied, which must be leveled out.

After the plaster layer has dried, a primer is applied with a facade paint. One layer of paint will be enough. To protect glasses from contamination, they can be covered with an adhesive tape. This completes installation of the slopes, and you can mount the windowsill.
