Preparatory activities

When starting window production, it is necessary to pay great attention to the material. It is recommended to use not a solid board or a bar, but a spliced wood. Such material will further avoid the warping of the window and its shrinkage during the drying of the wood. The window consists of a box that fits tightly into the window opening and frames with glasses. For the box, boards with a section of 50x150 mm are best suited. To produce a solid frame, you can use a bar with a section of 50x50 mm. The dimensions of the materials should be selected based on the dimensions of the opening. Small windows are chosen for the window.

Important! All the wooden materials that will be used when assembling the window must be well dried.

To make the window as high-quality and beautiful as possible, special attention should be paid to certain aspects of technical production. At home, it will not be possible to make a window that will meet the high demands of airtightness and sound insulation, so they are not suitable for installation in bedrooms, in the kitchen, in the hall. But for less demanding premises, such as a bath, balcony, veranda, self-made windows will be a reliable barrier from the environment. In addition, wooden windows sweat because of a lack of reliable sealing, which serves as another factor against installing them in living quarters.

Wooden windows with our own hands: we collect step by step

The whole cunning in the production of windows is in the window bound. It serves as a spacer between the panes and provides space for the rail and seal. The optimal distance between the glasses is one centimeter. For the frame you can use wood from pine, oak, hornbeam, other varieties are not very suitable for this.

  • Measure the perimeter of the opening and add another 10%;
  • The material is then cut;
  • Boards are sawed at an angle to get the first groove;
  • Screws with large threads and flat heads are used to fasten the parts, which it is desirable to heat up.

The cutting of the glass is then carried out. It is not difficult to do this, but there are several important points. First, the glass should be free of defects, durable and clean. Before cutting it should be a little oiled. Secondly, you need to cut with one movement, after which the glass is shifted to the edge of the table and breaks. Important! All work with glass should be carried out in goggles and gloves.

After that, the glass is inserted into the frame to check the conformity of the dimensions. Then it is removed, and in its place is put a sealant. A common question is why do wooden windows sweat? They sweat just because of poor sealing, so you need to use a quality sealant and it's good to put it. After processing the sealant, the glass is inserted back. Then put the glazing bead and slowly tighten the screws, starting from the middle.

Final work of

The basics of the window have been completed. Fittings for wooden windows in our time is not a problem, because in any specialized store you can find absolutely any pen and locks. You can also use the fittings from old windows, if it is in good condition. In order to cover the screw holes, decorative handles can be installed in their place. When all the fittings are mounted, the finished window needs to be varnished or painted.

Separately, it should be said about the sealing. Specialists recommend applying the sealant as described above. However, for greater protection from the weather, it is possible to apply the filler when the sealant dries. To do this, it is best to use traditional filler, as some of its types are very poorly washed from the glass. The windows are wooden, the sizes of which can be either standard or non-standard, made according to this technology, will be able to provide reliable tightness for more than one year and not cause fogging of the windows.

Note! Painting windows need a couple of days after the full drying of putty.
