Materials for tightness of structures
During installation, the following is not permissible:
- leaks inside( groundwater entering the sewage system);
- leaks from the inside.
Materials used:
- silicone sealants;
- tapes for sealing;
- resin tow and cement slurry;
- other means by which the sewage is sealed.
Silicone sealants
Silicone-based sealants represent a collection of a variety of substances that subsequently have high insulation values. Excellent adhesion to the surfaces of silicone sealants, makes it possible to exclude pre-treatment with primers.
Depending on the hardener used in the production, they are divided:
- neutral( suitable for most cases);
- is acidic( only used with non-reactive acidic compounds).
Using sealants, based on silicone, the sewage can be sealed from the following pipes:
- made of plastic;
- made of metal.
The process of vulcanization of the mixture takes the form of a substance whose properties are similar to rubber. Moisture in the air takes part in the vulcanization process.
When using a sealant on a silicone base, a mounting gun is used. If there is no one at hand, this operation can easily be carried out with a hammer handle, inserting from the back of the container with silicone and gradually pressing, as if on a piston.
Application of resin harness and cement mortar
The classic way is to seal the joints of sewer pipes by coiling a resin bundle at 2/3 of the depth of the socket, after filling with 1/3 of the cement slurry. Use 300K cement and above, observing the proportion of cement to water 9: 1.
Sealing of the sealant procedure is very tedious and time-consuming, it may be changed to use a cement mixture with waterproof and expansion properties, as well as rapid solidification. Self-sealing with extension.
Sealing tapes
One of the newest sealants for pipes are self-adhesive tapes. They are specially designed for sealing, and also have anti-corrosion properties. The following positive qualities can be noted:

When the sewer is sealed with tape, the work must be performed in the following sequence:
- Before applying the tape, prepare the application area( dry, clean and dust-free)
- To avoid creases and wrinkles, it is necessary to ensure constant tension.
- To create two layers of film over the entire surface, you must overlay the tape with a 50% overlap in a spiral.
Tapes do not tolerate direct exposure to UV radiation. Therefore, it is necessary to provide an additional protective layer for this film, if the structure is exposed to sunlight.
Other sealing means
- Smolyanaya strand, jute or hemp rope - serves for the sewage pipeline of ceramics and cast iron, with the sealing of the funnels.
- Technical sulfur - serves to seal the joints of the sockets of cast-iron sewer pipes. It must be crushed, heated to the melting point and poured into the junction of the joint.
- Asphalt mastic and petroleum bitumen - it is used for pouring sockets and sealing joints of sewer pipes from ceramics.
- Epoxy resin - is the most common means for connecting sewer pipes.
- Portland cement is one of the components of sealing compounds. It is used in asbestos-cement mixtures when casting iron pipes of sewer pipes.
