Features of a floating ceiling

What are the features of the "soaring stream"? How does it arise? This illusion is formed due to the location of the additional structure at a certain distance from the kitchen ceiling and wall. And the hidden LED strip gives the visual impression of soaring to the ceiling, which seems light, airy, weightless.

Lighting elements are hidden in special recesses. Upward light is reflected off surfaces. The result of these tricks and "magic" is the visual sensation of a ceiling flying in the air.

Advantages and disadvantages of LED ceiling

The soaring ceiling, like any detail in the interior of the kitchen, has its advantages and disadvantages. Before considering the pros and cons of an LED ceiling, we note that not every kitchen is suitable for such a solution. For a visually “flying” effect, a kitchen with a sufficiently high ceiling is required. It's all about the installation of a structure that will “steal” priceless centimeters of space.

Advantages:

  • The design will last a very long time. You will already want changes and repairs, and the ceilings will still have their original appearance. An exception is physical damage to the structure for any reason (flooding, the result of improper cleaning, etc.).
  • Despite the fact that the structure is rather bulky and is carried out at a great distance from the ceiling, as a result, visually your kitchen will look more spacious, lighter, “lighter”.
  • Possibility hide communication pipes, unevenness of the ceiling surface and so on. At the same time, the customer can independently (or with the help of a designer) come up with the shape, color of his idea.
  • The use of LED backlighting is already a great advantage of this idea. The reason for this is the low power consumption compared to other light sources.

Flaws:

  • The design of a multi-level and complex floating ceiling is a costly business not only in material terms, but also in technical terms. To create such beauty, you will need a considerable amount of special details. This can be difficult if you are doing the installation personally, without the participation of a professional.
  • LED ceiling is not for everyone kitchen style. For example, it is difficult to imagine a multilevel "flying" structure in country style kitchen.

Floating ceiling materials

Two main materials are used to create a backlit ceiling:

  1. Stretch ceiling. This is a ceiling covering fixed to a special profile under the main ceiling of the kitchen. The material is vinyl (PVC) or textiles. LED stretch ceilings can be of several levels. Of the lighting elements - only those that do not heat up much, because the ceiling material is susceptible to high temperatures (over 40 degrees) and can be damaged over time.
  2. Plasterboard ceiling. This material allows you to transfer any shape, pattern, figure, hidden lighting elements, etc. to the ceiling of your kitchen. Drywall perfectly withstands high temperatures, does not deform over time, therefore, on this type of ceiling you can use any lamps. The design is so strong that you can additionally apply stucco or mirror inserts to it.
  3. Combined ceiling. The combination of stretch and plasterboard material will create a unique ceiling design.

Cornice lighting

This is, perhaps, the simplest, fastest, less costly in terms of finance and installation type of "suspended" ceiling. It is enough to purchase a special curtain rod for the LED strip. The location of such a cornice is on the wall under the ceiling (the distance between them is at least 50 mm). Hence follows the main and, perhaps, the only design flaw - the accumulation of dust in the groove of the cornice, the difficulty in cleaning it.

Number of ceiling levels with LED lighting

As you know, fantasy has no limit. Therefore, performers can make a ceiling for the customer with any number of levels. Let's take a closer look.

Duplex ceiling

In this case, a single-level ceiling is taken as a basis, on which an additional level of the structure will be superimposed. The shape of such a tier can be any: curly, island, straight, etc. This level is usually quite voluminous, allowing not only to create a unique ceiling, to increase the space, but also to visually change the geometry of your kitchen.

Tiered ceiling

This type of construction is not common in standard city apartments, because the more tiers, the more material is laid, the lower the ceiling in the kitchen will be. We conclude: it is advisable to install multi-level tiers in spacious rooms with high ceilings.

Shapes and designs of illuminated ceilings

As we have already said, modern materials and high-class professionals create kitchen ceilings for any imagination and desire. Consider the most popular forms that have found their fans:

  • Simple lines. These are single straight, zigzag lines, lines with any curvature, evenly installed on the ceiling or concentrated in a certain place to emphasize an invented composition or room zoning.

  • Points. Integral steel ceiling Spotlights. Their dignity can hardly be underestimated. Using dots, you can illuminate certain areas of the kitchen (cooking area, dining area), distribute evenly or create in a composition with a ceiling decor (concentrated in one location).
  • Chandelier. As a rule, the chandelier is installed in the center of the room. But in modern kitchens you can find chandeliers of various types and shapes, on which their location depends. For example, a pendant chandelier might not hang in the center of the kitchen, but over the dining table.
