The diameter of the drilled hole is determined by the road builders. For finishing, cutters with a fine notch are best suited.
Drills with large notches are necessary for working with soft wood. It is much easier to work with a spiral drill than with all others. In some cases, when drilling, the wood splits at the exit point of the drill, and the hole itself becomes chamfered. To avoid such troubles, it is necessary to observe the following rules:
the workpiece to be drilled must be securely fixed;
centers of future holes should be marked with a pencil or an awl;
, the accuracy of the drill direction must be checked twice: before drilling starts and when the drill comes to a shallow depth;
when drilling deep holes the direction of the drill can be checked by eye, following the line drawn in advance with a pencil.
To drill blind holes, use a limiter, in the role of which stands a wooden bar. It is placed on the side of the drill and drilled until the limiter contacts the clamping chuck. Before starting work, a drill with a larger diameter is drilled with a bar, obtaining a tool to observe the drilling angle. Often, tree flicks are observed at the exit of the drill. To prevent this, you should closely monitor the exit of the stinger outwards. Sometimes it becomes necessary to expand the already drilled hole. To this end, a wooden stopper is placed in the hole and a drill is screwed into its middle. In this case, the plug acts as a centering member, guiding the drill along the axis of the smaller hole. You can use a drill bit and as an auxiliary tool for gouging the nests. To do this, you need a drill with a diameter equal to the width of the future hole. At the required depth, a row of nests are drilled, and then the remaining bridges are removed by a chisel.
During storage, to avoid damage to the drill head, a screw or wooden plug of the correct size should be screwed onto the stinger. Do not forget - safety works first!
