First acquaintance with glass wool

For the manufacture of glass wool, the latest technology is used, therefore it is safe. It is considered a universal insulation, as its operation is possible at any temperatures. Thanks to its heat and sound insulation properties, noise will be heard only where it is produced.

There are several types of cotton wool, which are divided according to the field of application. So, isolate insulation for pitched roofs, exterior walls, horizontal surfaces. In addition, it has different shapes: rolls, plates, mats.

Glass wool in rolls is used for light frame structures and pipeline insulation. A glass wool, pressed, in the form of mats and slabs, is used for outdoor and indoor works in medium-sized areas.

Glass wool as insulation -

properties The use of this material has its advantages :

  • fire resistance;
  • frost resistance;
  • material passes steam and does not absorb moisture;
  • cotton is convenient to use in hard-to-reach places;
  • low cost;
  • has good water repellent properties;
  • environmentally friendly material;
  • easy installation;
  • resistance to different temperatures;
  • Immunity to chemical reagents.

But there are also disadvantages of :

  • increased brittleness of fibers;
  • thermal insulation properties are slightly lower than that of mineral wool;
  • low density;
  • is shrinking.

The main condition for choosing a heater is the coefficient of thermal conductivity. It should be less than one, and, the lower it is, the better. This coefficient is indicated either in the name or on the package.

Another important criterion, which should be guided - it does not lead to rodents, because this material is quite elastic and dense, and most importantly inedible.

How to work with glass wool - the secrets of successful insulation

In order to insulate the wall, it must be prepared, made even and dry. Next, a waterproofing film is attached to it and its joints are glued with adhesive tape.

Then to a wall wooden blocks 50х50 mm are beaten. They should be placed with a gap of 60 cm. For fastening, dowels are used. Drill the holes in the wall through the beams so that there is a depth of at least 40 mm in the wall. Plastic plugs are inserted in them, and then nails are driven in.

There is no secret in what to fix glass wool to the wall. The thickness of 5 cm is laid between the beams. Since the width of the sheet is 61 cm, this allows you to insert it between them.

In order to cut the required length, it is better to use a sharp knife with a long blade. It should be noted that it is necessary to cut 1-2 cm more than the desired size. Then the joints of the heater will lie densely.

You have to start the cotton wool from the bottom and go up. At the top of the insulation is a vapor barrier. You can fasten it with the help of staples and stapler, nailing to a bar. Joints of vapor barrier film should be glued with adhesive tape.

Do not neglect the fact that working with glass wool requires the use of protective equipment: mask, tight clothes, gloves.

Much attention should be paid to ensure tightness. By the way, instead of the bar you can use a metal profile, and in the same way. After the done works it is possible to cover the wall with plasterboard and prepare it for further coating.

How to work with glass wool, any builder knows. But now, after a detailed instruction, it becomes clear that everyone can do this work with their own hands. It does not need to pay extra money.
