The primer is the composition by which any surface is treated before finishing. In fact - this is a bituminous primer. Often under the finish is meant painting. The use of this material significantly increases the "coupling" of the coated surface( adhesion), prevents the absorption of moisture.
Bitumen primer is a compound obtained by dissolving petroleum bitumen. In construction is often used to improve the reliability of the layer of waterproofing, for example, in the construction of roofing, floors( after laying screed).It is sold either in a concentrated form, or already ready for use. However, such a material can be made by hand. There are two methods, and the use of one or the other depends only on the availability of time.
The first way of making primer
It is used when time "does not stand".Get the composition by the "cooking" method. It is necessary to consider, for processing of what material the primer is prepared. The components of the mixture are bitumen and gasoline.
The relationship is as follows:
- for metal surface treatment - 1: 3;
- for concrete coatings - 1: 2.
Fire sources can be very different: blowtorch, kerosene, fire. The main thing is to bring the material in the tank to a boil. After that, the liquid bitumen neatly, without hurrying, pours out into the tank with gasoline.
Important! It's bitumen in gasoline. Do not do the opposite!
It remains only to mix everything thoroughly, and you can start priming.
The second way
To get the ready-made composition, it will take quite a lot of time - from 7 to 12 days. Pour the gas into the prepared container in the calculated proportion. Then bitumen pieces are put there. And all - he will slowly begin to dissolve in gasoline.
However, two factors must be taken into account:
- container should be hermetically sealed. Otherwise, the gasoline vapor will evaporate;
- to accelerate the process of preparing the primer you need to regularly thoroughly mix the whole mass, and this is an additional waste of time.
Recommendations
- it is desirable to prepare the primer immediately before use, as it thickens with time;
- its temperature when used should be about 80 degrees. If the composition has hardened, it must be heated and mixed thoroughly;
- temperature at which the primer starts to harden - 15 degrees. Therefore, to store it you need to choose a warm room;
- the composition is applied to the surface to be treated with a roller, brush or brush;
- should avoid freezing the material, as its properties deteriorate significantly;
- can not be used with any other "solvents", except for gasoline( for example, diesel fuel);
- it is possible to work with a bitumen primer even in rainy weather;
- the applied compound should dry well( at least 16 hours).
It should be taken into account that the resulting composition belongs to the category of combustible materials, therefore, it should be stored accordingly, and at work observe safety measures.
