Grouting tile joints in a bathroom is both simple and responsible. It is necessary to know the correct implementation of this process and the correct selection of trowelling mixtures.

The broken technology of grouting the tile joints will lead to an ugly appearance, as well as the appearance of mold and fungus due to the increased humidity level.

Intended use

The trowelling mix for tiles is a dry cement based material. With its help, the seams between the laid tiles are filled, which gives the decorative surface and protects it from moisture penetration.

Before application of the grout, tile seams are prepared, which are thoroughly cleaned from the tile adhesive. Floor tiles necessarily vacuums. The trowelling mixture is diluted with water to the cream state and is applied to the seams with a spatula.

Then, using a sponge or a damp cloth, the grout is given a concave shape and smoothness. All residues of the grout are removed from the surface of the tile until hardening.

Correct choice of the composition

The necessary trowelling mixture is chosen after acquaintance with its composition and properties. In operating conditions in the bathroom, its moisture resistance is very important.

At present there are two types of grout in the domestic market of materials. The first is made on cement basis, and the second one consists of epoxy resin.

Cement

Pass moisture and are afraid of cleaning chemicals. In color such grouts are presented in gray, as well as in white.

When using cement grouting in the bathroom, use a water repellent agent that is resistant to moisture.

Cement Grout

Epoxy

Consist of resin and a kind of hardener. Seams from such a grout are resistant to various damages and the use of chemicals. They retain color more than 50 years. The cost of this grouting greatly exceeds the price of cement-based material, so it is rarely used in domestic conditions. Most often, this grout is used with a joint width of more than 6 millimeters.

Epoxy grout

With latex

In the shops, grouting for joints is also implemented with the addition of a small amount of latex, which, after application, requires a moisture resistant lacquer coating. In this case, the grouting retains a natural color for a long time.

Leading manufacturers

Today, dry mixers for the domestic market are supplied by many manufacturers.

Trowelling mixture

Almost a third of the domestic market is occupied by the company for the manufacture of trowelling compounds Knauf. Sales of this manufacturer's products are increasing year by year. In Russia, this company has been known for more than twenty years. Its branches are located all over the world.

Dry mixers from the manufacturer Volma are widely known to Russian consumers. They are presented in dozens of titles. The company is on the second place in the domestic market of trowelling compounds. It has five operating plants.

The most famous manufacturer of a modern range of grout tile joints is a German company called Henkel. He is engaged in the production of a whole range of finishing materials called Ceresite. All the products of this popular brand have excellent quality, which is quite typical of German production.

Gravel mix "Ceresit" does not absorb various impurities and has increased frost resistance. This allows it to be used outdoors outdoors, as well as in rooms with a high level of humidity. Also, this trowel is used to finish the tiles of a modern warm floor in any room.

The manufacturer of modern cement-based mixtures is the group of companies called Eunice, is in second place in terms of the total volume of production. All the products of the company have a five-year guarantee for the results of finishing works with the use of manufactured materials.

Located in Russia, the branch of the famous French manufacturer Saint-Gobain produces large volumes of high-quality dry trowelling compounds. The company's products are in demand in more than 42 countries.

Porous tiles

When repairing tiles with a relief pattern, the tile is carefully made, because the trowel on the surface of the tile clogs the deposited relief and leads to material damage.

When working with this type of modern tile, the trowel should be applied with a finger with rubber gloves pre-worn. All the remaining grout on the tiled surface should immediately be washed off.

For the first batch of work, a small part of the wall or floor covering must be removed. If on this site in the process of work a positive result is obtained, then it is possible to carry out the entire amount of work safely.

The choice of the color of the mixture for the seams of ceramic tiles

The color of the trowel, which the seams of ceramic tiles are rubbed on, is of great importance. Each modern manufacturer produces a wide range of colors for the trowelling mix, with which the right color is selected.

Tile joints, which have standard parameters, are most often treated with a mixture of contrasting colors, giving the surface a strict and expressive appearance. With poor-quality tile laying, this color will accentuate all the shortcomings.

Contrasting grout

For a fashionable smooth mosaic with a relief structure, the color of the trowel is selected in one tone, which makes the structure noticeable. In this contrast color emphasizes the size of this tile. Glass modern mosaic is most often treated with a transparent trowelling mixture.

For easy identification with color, a piece of ceramic tile is obtained, to which grout is selected. If it is perfectly combined with the tiled surface, you can purchase it for the entire area to be treated.

Determination of the color of the grout

Transparent trowelling

A colorless trowelling mortar consists of a hardener, a crumb of glass and an epoxy resin. It must be remembered that this grout is not completely transparent.

Because of the glass chippings in the composition, the light passes through the grout with the transfer of the color of the material inside the seam. Such a grout is very convenient for processing small joints of about 2 mm in mosaic compositions. Sometimes a mosaic can be pasted on a grout.

Grout for mosaic

The main purpose of this grouting is to preserve the external magnificent view of the tiled mosaic, the seams of which do not stand out, so it looks natural .A solution of transparent grout is prepared in small portions using electronic scales. This is required for uniform correct application and convenient alignment, as well as for the timely cleaning of the tiles from the remnants of the material.

If this is not done, the epoxy grout will solidify during the day and a whitish film will appear, which can be removed only with an acidic chemical cleaner. Two days later the residues are removed only by chemical acids. After a week, the rest of the grout will remove only the Bulgarian, which will damage the interior. The work carried out with such a trowel requires sluggishness and accuracy. First it should be done with a probe.

Instruction

During repair, the tile seams are rubbed in several stages:

  • Mixing of the materials for the solution is performed.
  • The mixture is aged for better blotting.
  • The mixture is re-mixed.
  • The working solution is distributed.
  • The tile is cleaned of excess grouting.

Grout for tile joints is prepared by the following method:

  1. Liquid is poured into a dry bucket.
  2. Gradually add dry material mixed with an electric stirrer, which must be completely immersed in the solution to prevent air from entering the mixture.
  3. After mixing the whole mixture with the added liquid, the resulting solution is left to settle for ten minutes.
  4. The grout is thoroughly mixed until the lumps disappear.

The trowelling is carried out as follows:

  • The prepared material is placed on a tiled surface.
  • The mortar is spread on the surface by a trowel, which is held at an angle of 30 degrees with respect to the tile.
  • Then, using a grater, the working solution is pressed into the seam for a more dense filling.

Trowel fill all the voids near the tiles formed after applying the adhesive layer.
