Wood is much stronger and better than chipboard or MDF from which most modern beds are made. Wooden beds, in the photo, are made by ordinary people.

Materials and tools required for making a wooden bed

For a frame, you can use a planed board of pine, beech, walnut, larch or other types of timber. Depending on the chosen wood the price of a wooden bed is formed. Wooden beds made of pine - combine a low price and good textural characteristics of wood.

1. Board 2500x300x20 mm - 2 pcs.for the sides of the base.
2. Board 2000x300x20 mm - 3 pcs.on the head and the side.
3. Bar 2000х40х40 mm - 5 pcs.for 4 carriers and 1 pc.on support and legs
4. Rail 1500x40x20 mm - 27 pcs.(25 per rack + 2 for fixing the headboards)
5. Wood screws and metal mounting bracket.
6. Joiner's glue, acrylic or alcohol stain and lacquer.

Of the tools, you will need a small set:

1. Rubber and sandpaper, for correcting blemishes and glitches of carpenters.
2. Tape measure, pencil, carpentry corner.
3. Electric jigsaw. Hacksaw on wood, chisel, hammer.
4. Drill or screwdriver with a set of drills and bits.

Assembling the frame of a wooden bed

1. Measure the dimensions of your mattress again. It must be located in the frame frame freely, but without large gaps.
2. In size, cut two long boards for the side and two end boards. Make a regular rectangle out of them. Correct fixing is done by the Sh - shaped connection with the help of wooden spikes and eyelets. Nests for such connections can be chiselled or cut with a jig saw.
3. Grooves are made 2 - 3 cm wide and up to 5 cm deep. Lubricated with carpentry glue lugs are joined, aligned at right angles and fixed clamps until completely dry.
4. This design is an example of a classic joinery. If it is difficult for you to make a middle ear-piece, you can fix the sides of the wooden frame with a stud fastening.
5. For this connection, the mating holes in the end faces of the board and on its edges are milled with the diameter of the wooden spike. Holes and spikes are lubricated with joinery glue and collected in a box.
6. The easiest way to assemble the base of a wooden bed is to use wood screws and fix the sides with a metal corner.

Mounting and securing the legs on the

2. In the latter case, it is better to use a studded fastener to assemble the structure. This method is more reliable for such compounds and is not prone to loosening.
3. For wide double mattresses an additional fifth leg is provided, which is located in the middle of the frame. For this purpose, another longitudinal board is attached, to which the fifth leg is fixed.

Lamellar frame for mattresses

1. Lamella net or grille, designed to ensure that the mattress is not forced into the interior and does not fall to the floor.
2. On the inner side of the frame, on the side panels and end boards the fixing retainer rail is stuffed. In height, make a marking not less than 10 cm from the top edge. On the perimeter, the rack is fixed with a solid or dotted line. Instead of the rail, you can screw a metal corner.
3. From the timber, it is enough to take section 3X3, on the inside dimension of the frame of a wooden bed made of solid wood, a frame under the lamellas is made.
4. The frame is stuffed with a rod( rake) with dimensions of 1500x40x20 mm. The rail is fixed across the length and in steps of 5 to 7 cm.
5. If you stick to the pre-compiled drawings, then making a wooden bed with your own hands is not at all difficult. The next step is sanding the frame and coating it with varnish.

Finishing finishing work

1. In order to make the bed look beautiful in the interior, think over the color and tone of the coating, in harmony with the surrounding situation.
2. The carefully trimmed and cleaned frame is impregnated with linseed oil and covered with oil or pentaphthalic paint.
3. Before coating with varnish, the surface is given the right tone with stain. The stain is applied evenly with a brush. After drying, the varnish is applied with a roller, brush or foam rubber tampon. It is desirable to apply at least two coats of lacquer. The dried surface is polished with a felt or felt sponge.
4. For the headboard and footboard, you can purchase a decorative panel plate in the store. A carved wooden plate according to your drawings, for a wooden bed, can be ordered in a carpentry workshop.
5. Side horizontal boards, you can decorate the finished carved bar. Decorative elements do not carry a special load and are attached to the glue, small carnations or screws.
